I put a safari rack in mine about a year ago and I have had no problem with it and it has been wheeled pretty hard with 35's. Holding up well.

Crown king saturday 12/19

Was looking to run to crown king on saturday it will be the first time off road with my lift and tires...was trying to see if any people in the Phoenix az area might be interested in going...let me know and we can figure out a time and place to meet...I can get you my contact info if interested as well..thanks

I seem to remember back when I bought a new steering rack some were suspecting the aae 3273n was the same as the safari unit. I ended up with the aae and it's been bullet proof with lots of trail miles on it. May be worth a try if you need something sooner rather than later.

I ended up getting one from Napa. Couldn't wait, did hunt for an aae but the stock has all but dried up.

Ok... So, who's up for a Sedona run this Saturday (12/19). I'm thinking we plan on hitting the trail around 10:00am, which means getting on the road no later than 8:30 from the north side of town (say around the 101 and Frank Lloyd Wright where I hear there are bagels... )

After Broken Arrow, we could always take what's left of our vehicles and head up the road to Soldier Pass -OR- run up to the top of Schnebly Hill Road and then into Flagstaff. Might be fun to get the rigs into the snow up on top. Then it's a quick bite to eat (in either Sedona or Flagstaff) and head home.

I was thinking there's an Einstein's bagels at the 101 and Frank Lloyd Wright. Might be a better place to stop for coffee and a carbohydrate breakfast before the road. Or there are some shops at Pinnacle Peak or Happy Valley Road and I-17. I guess any will work.

But, let's make sure the trail is open. [MENTION=112004]lofreqjeff[/MENTION] posted on the facebook page that it appears broken arrow has been closed by the forest service due to snow and ice on the trail. Ice on the slick rock makes it realllllly slick apparently... I'm going to call the FS and see if they have an ETA for it opening back up. With temps in the 50s (and near 60 on Friday and Saturday) I can't imagine it being closed for long.

if its closed, we can still go and try to see if the other trails are open, or we can try for crown king, its a nice trail with obstacles that are tricky, yet have bypasses. heck I ran the second half of the trail in front wheel drive haha.

I'll call the FS tomorrow morning to get an update on Broken Arrow. Three days of 60 degree weather will get rid of a lot of snow and ice...

Broken Arrow takes around 2 hours to complete, more or less, depending on how much time we take to stop at the two scenic areas (Submarine Rock and Chicken Point). Short and sweet. If we take Schnebley Hill road back up to the highway, that's another 2'ish hours of really rocky hill climbing. Great views though!!! Highly recommended!

Well that makes more sense.

I called the Red Rock FS Rangers office this morning and they'll be issuing an update on Broken Arrow and Soldier Pass later today after noon'ish (Both are still currently closed as of around 9 am). Also, Schnebly Hill Road is closed between the I17 and the Merry Go Round (about 3/4 of the way up the road). So, if we go and you want snow, You'll have to take 86 up through oak creek canyon to Flagstaff.

I'll update everyone once I get the info.

Ok... so it appears that Broken Arrow is still closed today. The person I spoke with really didn't have any idea if it will be closed tomorrow as well. I would assume that the tour companies would be pushing for it to be opened due to weekend traffic and demand but it's not a given.

I called Barlows and while they also expected it would be opened up tomorrow by around 10:00 am, they weren't 100% sure of it. So, I'm open to ideas. It may be looking more and more like Crown King...
