who wants to go wheeling?

I was pretty down that I had to miss the expo. My daughter had a dance recital that Saturday and I worked Monday so Sunday wasn't an option. Was hoping to meet a few people and see all the cool stuff they had there. I'll plan on next year I guess. From what I see it went real well!

I've been up there a few times. We usually go rim road (FR 300) to knoll lake and camp there. I want to go camping this weekend, but I gotta convince the gf.

I still want to do the back way to crown king one of these days too.
 
My rig is finally 100% now that is hot as hell. Got my front cv axles replaced, timing belt kit done and my brakes all squared away and working properly. Im ready for some off road fun some Butcher Jones lake trips or any other trails with water are a must this summer.
 
I was up camping on the rim earlier this year and did some exploring. Most what i fou d was service roads and camp sites. There are a few small lakes. Good camping but not much off road stuff.
 
I hear you on the rim roads up north, it's more 'expedition trails' than off-road...

No I haven't gone south, I suppose the AZ Border roads?
 
Some service roads aren't really "roads". I took some service roads up by Mormon Lake/Ashurst lake that were quite technical in several spots. Not Payette Draw technical but fun none the less. Years ago I was with a group of folks on quads that explored a ton of fire service trails by Happyjack. There were a lot of spots that I could see would be challenging with a larger vehicle. I know this isn't directly on the rim but..... ALSO have been thinking about Exploring more in the Blue Ridge area once it cools off.

There was some fun wheeling around the west side of the Santa Rita's, but things are getting graded because of mining/border patrol.
There's always Charoleaux Gap, Reddington rd, Chiva falls, Rice Peak, gas line road east of 83, fish canyon area, and lots of other options around.

New to AZ.... Looking to hit some trails

Hello all, my name is Adam. My family and I just moved here from Illinois about 4 months ago and we now live in Chandler AZ. I had a nice 4th Gen (w/V8 power!) that I modified with a 3" Pro Comp lift and had a blast with it wheeling around the Midwest but needed to sell it before I moved out here (big regret!). So I recently talked my wife (somehow) into letting me buy an old gen 2, 5spd Manual that I absolutely love and have big plans for it but right now it's mostly stock. I took my wife and kids up to Saguaro Lake a couple weekends ago and had a blast but was not sure where I was going and with the kiddos complaining I didn't get very far! Anyway, looking to test out my stock '94 4Runner (it's got 4th gen wheels so it has a little more ground clearance) anyone willing to show me some good (easy to easy/moderate) trails next weekend or any weekend for that matter? Any upcoming trips I could tag along on?

I'm in Tucson, and usually hanging out with my 3 y/o. I love He areas by the lakes, and there's an incredible 4x4 experience heading north from Roosevelt Lake into Young, Az through Cherry Creek. Check it out soon if you get a chance, because it looks like they'll be closing it for some sort of bureaucracy.

Welcome Adam! You'd probably be able to run Box canyon out near Florence with no problems. I'm not going to be around next weekend (taking a motorcycle class my license endorsement) but may be around the weekend after that.

Thanks Freidom and Jeff. I'll google map that area and check it out. Let me know if either of you are looking to hit the trails anytime soon... I'd like to tag along especially since I'm new to these desert trails Also, This is not my daily driver so I'm willing to see what it can do stock. I do plan on doing a lift, some better ATs and some added armor late this year. Thanks, Adam.
