Who's running LC springs and Bilstein 5100 3rd gen shocks in the rear?

I'll be watching for you to post your results to this thread, I'm very curious to what you find out. I'm fighting suspension issues as well, my extended travel Bilstein 5100 shocks in the rear are just way too bouncy. My OME 906 coils and Shrockworks bumper (with tire carrier, tire, and hi-lift jack) simply overpower the shocks, they barely provide any dampening at all.
The 4Runner specific 5100's (not the Tundra application ones that you have) are designed to be run with the 906 rear springs (read between the lines - it is the only 220 lb/in spring with a 2" lift). That's probably your ticket for you, though they are still 'stock length'

Well looks like I ended up with some 8 wraps one purple, green and white and a double purple, blue and white for what should come out to 4" of lift. I might go ahead and order. Debating on going ahead and just ordering the Tokicos now. I would need extended bump stops for this if I don't have them right?

In my 25 years of modding vehicles, finding a suspension lift that doesn't ride like crap has been my weakness. I'm honestly a believer now in running coil spacers with OEM shocks for as long as I can if I can get away with it. Obviously now with 500lbs more in the back of my 4runner, I had to upgrade from the stock coils and old shocks.

I like the idea of running a Toyota LC spring with either a LC shock or a 4th gen 4runner shock...it will keep the components OEM Toyota. Old Man Emu shocks are too harsh and Bilsteins are too bouncy...in my opinion.

They're limited to a 2" lift but I'm very tempted to try these if all else fails...

Devbot on here is running Dobinson's 220v coils with the LC Shocks. Maybe ping him for his experience. He has a lot of custom armor on his 4Runner.

Yes otherwise you risk ripping the shock in 2. Many options out there fortunately. If your looking for a budget friendly route try for the ~’95 Oldsmobile bravada bumpstops. I have the PN somewhere if you need it and wanna go that route. They are roughly double the stock length. Durobumps also sells a +5.25” one?? I believe. If you do heavy wheeling just keep in mind your driveshaft will hit your gas tank when the drivers side tire goes full stuff. You will need to cut the skid a little bit

Yep, you'll need extended bump stops. I went with Energy Suspension + an adapter from Sonoran Steel. He no longer sells the adapter for the bump stops I'm using, but he still does sell his own design. And, there are others of course.

This is the ES bump stop I have: Just a moment...

Here's some pictures of them installed on my 4Runner with and without the SS adapter:

No adapter. This is just proving the concept. I think I was the first one to try these on a 3rd Gen. At least no one had posted about it back in the day. I had Downey Off-Road 3" springs, Bilstein 4600's and Beard Limit Straps at that point.

Steve sent me some adapters to try, so I painted them:

And installed them. The adapters prevent the bump stop from twisting plus they add a bit more length to the design. I still have these installed.

We now return you to our regularly scheduled thread about shocks and springs.

Interesting tip on the Oldsmobile bumps, I might go that route so yes please on the pn. I did know about the driveshaft issue although I had forgotten momentarily. Doesn't a panhard correction bracket fix this issue? I'll have to find somebody to weld that but I was wanting to do that eventually anyway. I guess I will hold off for a bit on this until I can get all of this stuff addressed.

Thanks I may look him up, I did order the Land Cruiser shocks a few days ago since they're cheap enough. I was tempted to rob the shocks off my FJ and to see how they ride but I'll try the LC shocks first. I'm going to throw in a 1.5" coil spacer on top of the 906 coils while I'm at it. I have a little bit of the squat look going on now...hoping an additional 1.5" of lift in the back isn't too much. I'll post results and pics when I can, probably be a week or two though.

4th gen / FJ / 5th gen shocks should all work well on the rear - but you'll want/need bump stop extensions too. They don't have any more travel, but are 2" longer compressed and extended (basically) compared to 3rd gen shocks.

These are the dimensions of that ES Bump Stop: Bump Stop Set; Black; Progressive Rate Design; 3 5/32 in. H x 2 9/16 in. OD; Accepts A 12mm Bolt;

Too short.

Did you see that post of mine about the ES competition bump stops I'm using?

Here's a site with locations that have the GM Auxiliary Spring available: GM 15962403 Spring, genuine OEM part
That site lies, called the CO Springs dealer on the list and they don't have them. They said one Florida dealer has supposedly one in stock and they might be an inventory error, going to call some pick n pulls next. Worst comes to worst I'll grab the $100 ones from energy suspension as it seems that's the cheapest aftermarket solution.

I got the LC shocks installed today. They definitely landed in the sweet spot between the too harsh OME 60028s and the too soft Tundra Bilstein's. The front and rear ride quality is now the same. Body roll is reduced and bump steer is non-existent. Speed Humps are super smooth. This rides like it used to with my Downey Off-Road springs and the OME 60027s.

For reference, I have a 10" subwoofer in a box that weighs about 38-40 lbs., a Hi-Lift Jack, a tool kit, 100 lbs. of sand bags in the back, a 33" spare tire and a hitch. I put the 100 lbs. of sand back there to reduce some of the rake with the LC coils. I think 1" of rake is perfect. 1.5" is too much. With that said, I think the ride quality is what it is right now because of the 200-ish lbs. of weight in the back. I think it would be a little jiggly with it empty. I'm confident that the spring/shock combination will deal with the typical camping loads I will subject it to.

I'm looking forward to getting in the dirt soon. At any rate, the street ride is a huge improvement over the other combinations I've had lately.

No LC springs or Bilstein 5100 shocks in the rear of mine but I did get my LC shocks installed and they ride fantastic....they even have a skid plate welded on from the factory. I'm running OME 906 coils with a 1.5" spacer on the drivers side and 2 10mm spacers on top of the coil on the passengers side. It's still settling in but I'll get some measurements soon. Looks pretty balanced to me with just a hint of rake which is what i was hoping for. I was worried the 906 coil with a 1.5" spacer on the driver side would be too tall but with almost 500lbs of extra weight in the back it worked out.

Sucks I had to cut off the Bilstein shocks (the top nut was frozen on), but the results were worth it and the price was right. I can't recommend the LC shocks enough, here's the part number again: #48531-69417 If you get these though, get the bushings/hardware if they aren't included...the shock has a bigger shaft diameter so the OEM 4runner hardware won't fit.

Well this is getting put off for a little bit. Both my CVs needed replacement. Ripped inner boots right where the clamp is. One of them decided to spit some grease on the last little bit of the 270 miles I drive today (I think it was when I was going around a cloverleaf). Bought some duralasts and will hopefully have time to tackle that tomorrow. At least this way I get some time now to scour pick n pulls for those bumps

I'm running the 5125's paired with the 7.5 wraps that I installed about 7 years ago. The springs are showing there age as I can hear them squeak when I go over bumps or come to a stop. May go the same route or run some OME rear springs.

The squeaks may be the sway bar bushings. That's what I would suspect first on my own truck. It could also just be some crud stuck in upper and lower coil perches rubbing against the coils and the metal in the perches.
