I think you can only delete your own post. Not a started thread. I think a mod has to do that. Or close the thread.
Why do threads get closed in the 5th gen section?

At the top of the thread, under thread tools. Should be a drop down that allows you to close the thread.

This only works on my own threads....should work on any thread you start.

I give a piece of advice.... make a new account to be the mod... TELL NO ONE.
.... crossed my mind... for about 1 second.... realized I don't have the time, don't have technical expertise, and mostly, don't have the patience!
I know one day, some jack-wipe would catch me on a not-so-pleasant day, and post a question that's been asked no less than 100 times (or more).... and even though he began it with "I tried searching and couldn't find anything..."... My immediate typed out response is going to be something like "well then I'm not sure how you operate a car, or in fact breathe, because that question has been asked and answered 5 million times on this forum you moron."
....and then I wouldn't be a mod anymore...

and why close the thread? people are still posting to it. its still relevant. if people stop posting, it will disappear, but I see no reason for it to be closed.
many forums have an auto close feature, and after so many months of non-use, the thread will close. but, it may as well remain open while people are posting in it.

He was a 5th gen mod. Well the thread went from why threads get closed to a personal attack of the 5th gen moderator who has now resigned (which was in the works prior to this thread opening). The OP prefers the thread not get any worse. It would be wise to close as to not perpetuate. It's far from on topic at this point.

im not sure if that is correct. how would he have been able to close threads in other sections? off-topic for example?
personal attacks? where? did anyone report them? where are the rest of the mods, and why aren't they dealing with such things?

Read the entire thread. They were there. It basically turned into a bashing the mod thread. This is what happens when the mod leaves... there was only one 5th gen mod. Unless someone reports the thread, nothing happens. The mods from the other generations don't have time to put up with the circus that is the 5th gen section. I would think the other generations are under control and probably have a lower population... and less knuckle heads.

I am not sure if I saw any personal attacks (ok well I saw perhaps one that could be). For the rest did see people disagreeing with the way things were which is not a personal attack unless we now live in North Korea.
Like any situation you will never have 100% of the group in agreement. Newbies could be a little less whiny, Seniors could be a bit more patient. I think a single moderator for this group is not enough. At least have two so when someone is having a shit day the other can pick it up and run.

Some folks (perhaps former folks at this point-haven't seen some in a while) on this forum have no grit and are so sensitive they'd complain their feelings got hurt or some such thing because they are called out and then they feel like their mommy isn't in their corner anymore and complain to the mod.

Yeah, I never report anyone unless they are truly abusive and continue to persist at it. Otherwise it is what it is. I have had a senior on this board before report me for saying something but then in another thread use damn near the same type language and it get laughed/shrugged off like you were at some frat party.
In the end it's just a forum where all walks of life congregate. You are bound to have some conflict. I've failed to search before in search of a quick answer. I have also searched far and wide without stumbling across an answer which was buried in a thread sort of unrelated, or tied to another aspect of the 4R. I've revived an old thread, etc etc etc. Guilty, not guilty, guilty, not guilty.

as far as only one 5th gen mod, im not sure that's true. usually there are mods that cover the entire sight, not just one section. im pretty sure he was one of those.
maybe that's part of the issue? he spent the majority of his time in this one section? and perhaps more are needed...
he cant have been the only mod that covered this section though..
