If the OP would supply some "buy" and "lease" numbers, I would crunch the numbers just for fun to see how bad of deal it is.
I'm going around dealer to dealer and collecting quotes and numbers, exchanging emails, and establishing a good communications via email for negotiations. From everything I have gathered, I think it makes more sense to buy.
Toyota offers 60 months 2.9% financing, but some credit unions offer the same percentage but for 72 months. Sure I could wait and save up more for a down payment, but then the 2016 models will be 1-2k more expensive anyways and I won't win anything in the long run.
My plan is to pose the dealers against one another in terms of how low they will go with the price, and simply take the best number on the last day of the month.
So far I can't find a non premium trail that has KDSS (don't think they make them, dealer couldn't even configure one for me) from what I have gathered, I think KDSS is valuable since it greatly improves road performance during bumps and turns.
I talked with my dad and he says to go for the leather seats anyways since I'll be keeping this car for a long time, they are likely to last longer and look better than the cloth seats? (don't know if that's true)
So far, for a black trail premium with KDSS, I'm getting offers at between 38-39k (I haven't negotiated down yet)
as for the regular trail with non kdss, I got an offer today just over 33k which is the lowest i've seen ever (dealer says it's invoice cost, and trucar checks out that it actually is)
I Hope I can negotiate down to at or just over 37k for the trail premium.
