Having recently purchased my 4Runner, 7 wks ago, I'll tell you that I put a lot of time and effort into research. I wanted my purchase to be a long term solution that I can not only continue to evolve with, but also have peace of mind that it will start every time and get me & my family to and from their destinations.
I chose Toyota because it is synonymous with reliability. Additionally, I loved the way the 4Runner felt and drove. Coming from a Honda, I knew Japanese manufacturing would stand the test of time and I wouldn't encounter much more than regular maintenance going forward. Though I am only a short time owner, I am very pleased with my choice and have not had even 1 thought of buyer's remorse.
To be honest, the Jeep was not on my short list of test drives because I have never been a fan of Chrysler. Again, I wanted something reliable that would not give me problems and I did not think a Jeep (in any model) would fit that definition.
However, the one thing that I can say Jeep has is a very strong sense of community. Something that has taken time to build and continues to grow. I think the cause of that is because most of them have encountered the same problems and misery loves company. That is not to say that all jeeps will break down on the side of the road. I just don't believe I'd take that gamble with my money, vehicle & family.
Good luck in your decision
For what it is worth, I will say this forum is the strongest online community I've been involved in (from cars to sports, etc) and the members are top notch.
