why skimp on audio

all stock right now.. just bought my runner bought two weeks ago.. doin tires, lift and spacers first.. i plan on keeping this simple. this is mainly my daily as well as weekend warrior. i have two other custom vehicles that i already pour money into.. i wasnt looking for another.. but i cant help it..
im planning on alpine hu, diamond audio d6 6.5 components powered by diamond d600.4 , one sundown sa8v2 d2 sub powered by audioque Q1-750 amp... ported and tuned to +- 34hertz.

In reply to your original question why people "skimp" out on audio products is because those sort of things arent usually important to 4Runner owners. I am taking a risk and making generalization but the niche of vehicle enthusiest that uy 4Runners are the function > form type of people that prefer utility over luxury.

There's a reason the "Pimp" forum is going bye-bye, ddnww. Head over to customtacos.com or somewhere else that people don't use their trucks as trucks, and you'll find plenty of Toyotas with insanely overpriced and overbuilt sound systems.

During my time here (a few months) I would categorize this forum as more of an offroad oriented enthusiast website. This being said, everybody wants their vehicles to serve different purposes. I know I speak for many when I say that my DD needs to accomplish a myriad of tasks and, while I would love to fill half of my cargo area with subwoofers . . . this just isn't feasible with the other purposes that my 4Runner serves. Life is all about identifying priorities and striking a balance between them.
In response to your original question: it probably has a lot to do with laziness. There are few who are willing to take the time to find the differences between quality components and overpriced crap. It could also have alot to do with the priorities of the build. If I had $10K to spend on a 4Runner build (not including the Runner) I would spend $1000 on audio. But I don't, so . . . I'm going to nickel and dime my way to more refined audio.

If it don't make you go faster, handle better, stop quicker or reduce weight you don't need it.
Personally I'd rather be spending money on top quality mechanical parts (even if just a daily), recovery gear and those bits & pieces that make a day safer and less of a challenge if you get stuck somewhere.

I'd like to echo a lot of sentiments I see here - we own 4Runners (in my house) because we are both active in our skiing community (patrol, instruction, etc.) and live in an area where the 4x4 system is a great thing to have, while enjoying the build quality and adequate but not too large dimensions we find they offer us.
As far as audio goes, I enjoy my tunes a little more than average, and am looking to find those really efficient upgrades that have the greatest bang for the buck (like the poor response from the stock front speakers under the windshield) but have no interest in mind-blowing 'imaging', 'staging', light shows, or telling people why I don't give a rip about why they think I should be turning my 4Runner into a rolling sound stage.
I may have 6 sets of skis (she has 2 sets, I have 4), a home gym designed for balance sports, and so on, but am not ever going to tell you that you are interested in 'low quality' ski or gym equipment if you are devoting less of your time and resources to it than I am. You just may be smarter than me for doing so...

Well being a professional car audio, video, and alarm installer for the last 22 years I can say that audio was the first upgrade to my 3rd Gen. When I bought the truck 2 years ago it had the stock speakers with an "upgraded" basic cheap pioneer radio. That old system has been pulled and replaced with a Kenwood Headunit (which will be upgraded to a Kenwood video unit soon) as well as a complete Phoenix Gold system including a Phoenix Gold Ti 5 channel amp producing 150 watts a channel to my Phoenix Gold Ti 6.5" components in the front doors as well as the Phoenix Gold Ti 6.5" coaxial in the rear doors. The 5 channel is also sending over 850 watts to 2- 12" Phoenix Gold Ti DVC subwoofers. The total retail price of my system is over $3500 installed so skimping is not in my vocabulary. It also helps that my Runner is one of my demo vehicles for my shop.
