Why the Toyota switch from 6-lug to 5-lug

except for the 5th gen Runner/Lexus GX, all other Toyota/Lexus truck-based platforms switched from 6lug to 5lug.....

leaving all the cool wheels from the 100series, et al, out as an option.

Not sure why they switched but Tacos are still 6 lug. On the flip side, Ford 1/2 tons were always 5 lug and since 2004 they are all 6 lug along with some 7 lug heavy duty models mixed in (since 97 actually).

It's prob cheaper to produce and manufacture. 5 lugs still gets the job done just fine.

Just think about it guys,it comes down to cost and how much money they will save out of 100k unit of vehicle over the years.

I was just thinking of how there is at least a perception that it produces a heavier -duty hub, because of the logic of a Kia having 4 lugs and a f-550 having 8.

So, since 4-runner, taco, fj, and gx stayed 6 lug, why shift over the tundra/ sequoia, 100/120, bigger trucks to a (perception is everything) visually inferior setup?

I thought LC's were always 5 (big) lugs...I think the reason Tundra/Sequoia switch over from 6 to 5 is because the new 'platform' was to be used by both Tundra/Sequoia and LC/LX570...and since LC was 5 lug...

Yes, 5 lugs, but 5 big lugs...like Land/Range Rover.

No, LCs were 6 until the 100 series, hence lots of 4runner guys using LC80 wheels.
