This is the first time I've heard of the AIP issue on the v8s. I'm doing a little research now and it does not look good. Is this a common problem?

After finding a used Pioneer 4100nex head unit for cheap I finally got around to installing it. Ordered up the extra parts from Crutchfield and the install was pretty straightforward. I have some extra parts coming to join the two antennas into one. I also purchased a Pioneer backup camera that I will install at a later date. Thinking once I install a spoiler I might be able to mount it either into the spoiler or where the original 3rd brake light is. That will give me a good view and judge of distance.
After installing the headunit I was amazed at how much the sound quality increased with the stock speakers. It was 10x better and actually had some control. Going another step further I purchased some inexpensive speakers from Crutchfield (front power and tweet and rear speakers). I went with the Rockford Fosgate R165-S Component Speakers for the front. Rockford Fosgate R1525X2 for the rear. The speakers were on sale and had good reviews so I figured why not. Didn't want to spend $500+ yet.
Yesterday I got around to installing the speakers all around. Went fairly easy, realized I did not purchased Crutchfields universal backstrap for the tweeters so a quick stop at the hardware store and some plumbers strap seemed to work just fine. Looks a little diy but nobody will be seeing that.
Instructions were pretty straight forward and only got stumped at one spot.
But all in and they work. In hindsight I probably would have left the stock speakers or spent more on the aftermarket ones. The new ones sound a bit better but not a lot. Usually I'm the type of person to spend extra money and get something that much better so this just reinforces that notion.
Overall happy with the full set up though and learned some more stuff about this truck.

All I can say is wow! I'm super impressed with all the mods. I too have the same color 4R so it's cool to see the mods on your rig as it shows what mine would look like. I wish I was as handyman as you and could do these jobs myself, but I'm not. I bought a new driver's side door catch on eBay and installed it myself and felt like I was Superman because I did it and nothing broke! Anyway, thanks for this build thread and the inspiration it provides. :thumb:

Glad i could be of help. Haha ya it is a unique color. I am still trying to decide what color wheels to go with... Bronze? Just keep it Black? we'll see I guess.
Haha you sound about as handy as me JShipps. This is the first vehicle I ever changed oil on... And this forum has pretty much walked me through almost everything. Its been a pretty neat learning experience and the knowledge here is pretty incredible.

Baja Designs Fog Lights & Wheeling Trip
My suspension pieces are all starting to come together. Just waiting on the last few major items to get shipped then the transformation will begin!
I was invited out for a short trip last night to a newly designated public land zone. So i threw some Spidertrax 1.25" Black wheel spacers on the day before and quickly threw in some Baja Designs Squadron Sport lights to replace my fog lights.
Following some advice from a local shop in town I cleaned up the hubs prior to installation and put a bit of antiseize between the spacer and the hub.

And Wheel Spacers with new tire "poke":
These spacers gave me exactly the stance and poke from the fenders that I was after!
I have never been impressed with stock fog lights on any vehicle and this one is no different. I even put LED's in them to see if that would help but it still really only lit up the 3 feet in front of me.
So these lights have been on my list for a while and finally just pulled the trigger and installed them. It was unbelievably easy!
I followed YETIX Instructions and they fit like a glove. I did have to reverse the polarity on the connectors but that was it. Luckily I had one of the tools laying around that was designed for this cause before I found it I could not get the pins out for the life of me. Here is his build page with that info:

I opted for the Squadron Sports over the Squadron Pro's because I wanted to be able to use them on the road in snowy or foggy conditions. I've heard the Pro's are just too damn bright.
The Sports seem to be a perfect level and love that I now have functional fog lights.
Plus the spacers now Bob Ross the crap out of my mirrors and entire side of the 4runner. Love it.

We've been blessed with some unreal weather here the last few weeks (about damn time, that was a long winter...)
Finally got to test out the new-to-me Treeline Outdoors Rooftop Tent I bought at the end of last summer. These tents are amazing, plus local to where i'm from (Alberta.) Plus got to give my "mostly stock" 4runner a good testing before I put the new goodies in. I didn't get many shots of my own 4runner but got some actions shots of the other guys.
Loving the Prinsu Rack and the RTT. NOT loving the mounting system. Really limits where I can put the tent as I can barely reach my hand underneath to tighten the thing down. Good thing is it'll slow anyone down trying to steal it.
Anybody using any of the tent risers or RTT quick mounts?

What is that filler piece you used to mount the sports? I’ve been considering a set of Amber sports I just don’t want any gaps between the square lights and round openings.

And i'm just getting started! Haha, I guess it never ends. Few things to update on and a few more things on the way too.
I used the kit designed for the Tacoma's. Fit is pretty good and just requires drilling one hole in the bumper. Easy to do and far batter than the stock fogs.

After 2.5 years of owning my 4runner I finally pulled the trigger on a proper suspension kit. Initially I had planned on going with Fox 2.5 in the front and Fox 2.0 w/ resi in the rear. But my local shop informed me of some new to the truck world Elka Suspension. Apparently pretty popular in the Snowmobile and Summer toy world. Figured I would give them a try. They do not offer a kit for the 4th gen 4runner so we had them put the correct size bushings in at the facory. Here are the specs:
Going from XREAS (100,000 miles) w/ Daystar 2.5"/1.5" spacer lift and 265/70R17 tires to Dobinsons C59-677V rear coils with 285/70R17 tires I gained 2.9-3" hub to Fender and 3.5-4.5" ground to fender.
Front:
Elka 2.5 Reservoir with DSC
Eibach 14"x650# spring installed (replaced 13"x700#)
Total Chaos UCA with Delta joint
Timbren Active Offroad Bumpstops
Rear:

The local shop to me told me about a Canadian company; Elka Suspension, that was getting into the truck market. They come from a world of UTV's, ATV's and snowmobiles. I figured I'd give it a try and support a Canadian company at the same time. Currently at this time they do not offer these shocks for a 4th gen 4runner so Krave Automotive (my local shop) worked with Elka to get the correct bushings installed from the factory. These shocks come with 13" x 700lb coils (I believe) so I have a set of 14"x650lb Eibach coils installed as well. This provides me with a bit more lift and a softer spring rate (no front bumper as of yet.)
I paired these shocks with Total Chaos UCA' with a delta Joint pressed in (apparently better suited for our climate up here.) I put 2nd gen 4runner rear end links on (longer) and went with a pair of Dobinsons C59-677V rear coils. Timbren Bumpstops in the rear and I've got front ones on the way.
I've had this kit on the vehicle for about two weeks now and absolutely love it. I don't have much experience with aftermarket shocks so my comparison is coming from a spacer lifted stock XREAS suspension but these feel amazing. The shocks front and back have dual speed compression adjusters as well so I've been playing with that and tweaking to my liking.

I posted this a while ago but figured I'd add it to my thread.
I Got back from a 700km trip and while I was getting the mud off as thoroughly as I could I noticed this:
Rear Lower Control Arm nut fell off somewhere and the bolt almost backed itself out completely. I did not feel anything strange but I'm pretty happy I caught it when I did. Can't imagine what would have happened if that arm dropped while on the highway.
Managed to get a new nut on in the parking lot of work. I had to use a ratchet straps to get the bolt all the way back through.

Work has been getting in the way of my summer way more than I would like. But I am trying to get out as much as I can. Weather is changing and nights are getting colder here way up north but I figure i've still got another month or so of easy camping. Then i'll have to switch from the Duvet to a proper sleeping bag.Haha
I picked up a set of full Aluminum Skid Plates from R.A. Motorsports in Edmonton, Alberta. Installed everything but the skid plate yet (havent had time.) I figured Aluminum should be good enough for what I need. Not planning on heavy rock crawling but if they will save me from the impacts that would disable the vehicle then they are worth the money.
I have been in limbo with a friend of mine regarding my Coastal Offroad Rear bumper. Its sitting nearly completed and we have been playing tag with our availability to get the final fitting done before powdercoating. Hopefully dropping it off tomorrow to get that going soon!
Now i'm dreaming of a front bumper and sliders... Problem is getting them up here to Canada without getting gouged on currency exchange, shipping and duty...
