Wierd Fan speeds for Heater Controls

You can not control the vent temp, only the cabin temp.

Not true, try setting your temp to 80, then turn the fan off, and leave the recirc. open. I don't care what you do the air coming in from the vent will be hot. The only way to take it down is to turn the fan on and adjust the temp, then turn off again. Try it. Let me qualify this. I have an 2007.

To maintain a set fan speed, just manually select the speed you want and it will not change, but the temp will change to maintain the set temp. Remember you can also manually select inside/outside air. You can not control the vent temp, only the cabin temp. You could play with the temp setting and fan speed to regulate vent temp and the vent temp would still vary a little. If you think about it; if you have a constant vent temp the system (like the old systems), you would have to adjust the temp as the interior heats up until the vent temp maintains a comfortable cabin temp. This is what the system does automatically.

This issue comes up with new owner until they have had time to use the system more. Again, the system works best when you find a comfy temp and set it on auto. It really does work great.

I still agree with you... but only in moderate climates. in my '06 I push the temp all the way up and press the high fan speed and select where I want the heat. the Auto is NOT illuminated. the heat starts, but if I lower the temp down from "high" and lower it to around 70 you can feel (and hear) the fan speeding up - even though the fan speed light is still on high. push the temp back up to high, and the fan speed slows (still with the high fan speed illuminated).

The fan speed is always whatever the indicator says it is, but the volume of it changes when the temperature blend door moves. It changes the acoustics.

do the toyota's have a blend door. for some reason I always thought that the 4runner modulated coolant flow to the heater core to adjust temperature.

Here is what mine did just tonight, I had it set to 65, but it was blowing just too hot of heat from the dash vents. So i turned it to 'lo'

it then turned the fan speed from lo- to med speed. The indicator lights for the fan even changed.

Why did it feel it necessary to do that? It was also in the manual setting too.
