Will 2015 TPMS work with 2004 4Runner

I'm looking at buying a set of wheels/tires off a 2015 T4R and am wondering if I'll be able to link up the TPMS sensors on my 2004 SR5. If yes, what is involved with doing this, and can it be done without taking the tires off? Thanks =)

When I installed new sensors/wheel, the serial numbers of the TPMS sensors need to be entered into the cars TPMS system.

My TPMS tool scanned the sensors for their serial nuumbers from outside the tire, I plugged the tool to OBD2 connector and uploaded the serial numbers to the car.

I was informed the Toyota TechStream tool was unable to read sensors off the air, and had to be read manually off the sensor, meaning the tire bead would need to be broken, to get to the sensor. I ran fast from the dealer, as they wanted to charge an ARM and a LEG for that. A real tire store can address this issue much more efficiently. :jump:

I guess the main thing is... are the 2015 TPMS sensors compatible with a 2004 4Runner?

My '06 has a sensor in the spare. So my truck took 5 sensors, only certain years had the sensor in the spare tire. @ 315mhz

Sensors come in different length stems, as well as the angle the stem sits on the sensor.

Yes. Worked on my 07. But had to get them programmed by a tire shop

What years had a fifth sensor in the spare?

I know my 04 has them but my new 17 does not. Not sure when they switched that up. Easy way to tell, crawl under let out some air and see if it tripped the light. I know the steelies don't have them, which started with the 5th Gens I believe.
