Will bigger spare tire fit?

Would anyone happen to know if a 285/70/17 tire on the stock rim will fit in the stock spare position under the rear? ('17 TRD Offroad) We'll be installing the bigger tires before we get our rear bumper with spare tire swing-out so are in need of putting the tire underneath for now.

To answer your question, yes it will fit. Like others have said, it will just hang down lower in the rear slightly decreasing your ground clearance.

I went a different route when it came to my spare tire size. Instead of buying a 5th tire at 285/70/17, I went with a 255/80/17. They are almost identical in diameter and sidewall so your truck will still perform properly if you were to get a flat. Unfortunately I had to use my spare recently, but it performed perfectly until I got my new tire.
 
On a related topic, does anyone know what the width of the stock spare wheel is?

Also, is the spare for the TRD Off-Road the same for an SR5?

I'm guessing. I haven't actually measured it, but I assume the Trail Edition spare wheel is 7&1/2". I was thinking of getting a new spare wheel to match the new 17 x 8&1/2" rims I'm getting for the 285/70/17 AT tires. I've found plain steel wheels for around $90.

I will be selling my stock 17x7&1/2" Trail Edition rims and spare. Whoever buys them will probably need the spare and matching, unused tire.

Hahaha you're correct sir ! Mostly tongue n cheek . Old timers would have blown up Op but time mellows us all ! And mine fits under fine !!:ybrick:

Thanks for answering my question everyone! Yup figured it would hang a little lower if it did fit up in there. Luckily it won't be under there but a couple months, until my rear bumper is made and installed.
 
Good search skills ! Something dropped damn sure wasn't mic ! Maybe class or lack of any skin much less thickness & think I will take my nap !

TE spare is also 7", though the alloys are 7.5".

I personally wouldn't replace the spare wheel, unless I guess you want 5 matching wheels, as the 7" spare will accommodate a 285 fine.
 
has anyone else just bought at TE or TRD Off Road wheel and made that their spare? I checked and the TRD Off Road wheel that matches my stock wheels is $215.00 seems like a pretty reasonable price, I was considering doing this when replacing the tires (see previous comment) and running a 5 wheel rotation. Anyone else doing this? pros? cons? thoughts?

Per Manufacturer's suggestions - it's not recommended.
BFG and Falken state 7.5"-9" wide wheels only... not sure about other manufacturers though so you could be right.

Half the people on this site probably run 285s on 7" wide TRD Pro, SR5, or similar Toyota OEM wheels.
