Will bigger spare tire fit?

Thanks for answering my question everyone! Yup figured it would hang a little lower if it did fit up in there. Luckily it won't be under there but a couple months, until my rear bumper is made and installed.

Cool. Out of pure curiosity only, what rear bumper are you going with, if you have the liberty to tell?

I know you already got your question answered but I fit a 275/70r17 KO2 under there no prob, wouldn't imagine a 285 would be much different as it isn't really a tight squeeze.

We're going with a dual swing out with jerry can holder on one side and tire carrier on the other from CBI Offroad. And thanks for the advice for the bigger tire fitting!

Half the people on this site probably run 285s on 7" wide TRD Pro, SR5, or similar Toyota OEM wheels.

If you need a slight bit of clearance you can also let all of the air out of the tire. Then fill when necessary with on board air.

Only way to fit the spare on my Dodge truck.

I am reading your signature and it states you have 295-70-17 tires. If that's the case, that size won't fit under there. This is just a forewarning heads up if you decide to go that route.

295 fits, just hangs low, however still above the rear differential.

hmm maybe a small all terrain 295, but i know for a fact my 295 trail grapplers don't fit under there, and the OP signature states he's running SST Pro's which are just as aggressive as the trail grapplers.

But, every truck is different I have a 2012 maybe the 2014's and up have more room.

I've been wondering about running a 255/80r17 spare. Its almost the same diameter as my 285/70r17 but its a thinner tire that would increase clearance and fit the narrower stock spare whee. Is anyone doing this?

The only departure angle MIGHT be a departure from a parking garage at Denver International.

This discussion is like the discussion about people discussing the toughness of rims and how they might crack or bend.

and two shitty framed/rotted framed Tacomas

and I have done a variety of off-roading after building these trucks and have
NEVER cracked a rim!! I am not saying that it can't be done, I am saying that air pressure and driving technique lead to broken parts.

Just wondering... Did it not get too close to the exhaust? I understand air flows through there when driving but how about at idle, in traffic or crawling?
