Will I regret not getting a 4WD?

Gotta ask yourself, if the dealers in your area pretty much carry only 2wd then why do you want the 4wd, here in NY the dealers don't carry 2wd and if you want 1 it actually cost more then a 4wd.

I've seen more then enough 4wd trucks in this area that have never been shifted into 4wd, just last winter someone was driving a 3rd Gen SR5 4Runner going up this steap ass hill covered in snow, of course their was a real brain behind the wheel, lets take the left lane on a hill (cause it was just plowed)where if someone comes over the top soon as they see you they hit you, I stayed back actually came to a stop on a steep incline, still if someone came over the hill I would have cushioned the crash, after the truck got to the top I stomped on it and flew up the hill and the 2 other behind me followed, I let the 3rd Gen get to an opened section of road and I flew past it as well as the 2 behind me.

Incase your wondering, the 3rd gen would have never made it up the hill on the unplowed surface and even driving on the plowed oncoming lane he was moving at 5-10mph and the right rear was spinning, I never stopped to help them out, had a prior appointment to go eat with friends:

2wd, 4wd... it really doesn't matter as long as it's a 4runner and not something else (hint hint... explorer )

if a 4wd doesn't fit into your lifestyle then there is no need to get one. if it might, then it's definitely worth getting it as you never know.

It's a question of what it will be used for. Where have you gone or wanted to go in the last five years where having a 4x4 would help? Where do you think you'll want to go in your new truck?

A 4x2 will go a lot of places you might not think it will. I did a lot in my 4x2 pickup that I never thought it would do. A 4x4 can actually get you into trouble in that way. You think it's more capable than it actually is and end up getting stuck.

Bottom line - do what others have suggested and get what you really want. Anything less will be ... less.

Don't get what you want. If you do, you'll never second guess yourself. You'll never look over at the Yota next to you and wish you had that one instead. You'll always get lower resale value. And quite frankly, whether your offroad or not, whether it snows or not where you live, don't you want to be without 4WD for that once in a blue moon occassion where you need it? Ever go to the wish and wish you couldn't drive on the sand?

Get the 4WD, it's better to have than not—even if you won't use it much. I don't think the fuel savings are significant on the 2WD and like others have said, you'll fair better in resale, and sell quicker because most will be looking to buy a truck for it's 4WD capabilities and of course, the Yota quality.
