Winching out versus MaxTrax?

For those of you who have both a winch and a set of MTs, how often do you find yourself having to winch out when MTs fail you?

I have a set of MTs I haven't had to use yet, but don't want to invest in a winch if there's not much of a reason to.

MTs are a good investment. And personally I think a winch is, too. Always have a back up, and you can use both at the same time if you're in that much trouble. But friends with winches are also a good investment, haha. If you wheel with someone who has a winch you can at least hold off for now. Don't know what your future plans are, but a winch is pretty pricey.

Yeah.. then there's the complication of creative mounting that doesn't look like shit. I've seen lots of hidden winch ideas, but all of them require some engineering (most likely voiding factory warranty as a result) and I'm not quite ready to fudge something I just got in Feb.

If your going to go off-road get a winch. I don't care what kind of tires you have, amd MT's are NOT the best, you will get stuck sooner or later. Personally I would not invest in a 'hidden' winch mount. Anyone that has done much winching will tell you that you need to SEE the winch while winching to make sure the cable doesn't spool up on one side and bind the winch until it stops. Invest in a good winch and winch bumper, get training on using the winch and get a couple of 'tree savers', a couple of clevis shackles and a snatch block.
A winch WILL kill or injure you or a bystander very quickly!!
