Window issues

I picked up my 86 Friday and am having issues with the windows. None of them roll down or up. The guy I bought it from said that the switches were corroded but it doesn't sound like that could be the deal. I really need to get the front windows rolled up cuz it's cold and supposed to rain monday and tuesday. Any help would be appreciated.

By all I assume you mean both fronts and the tailgate glass.

First check fuses, relays, connectors, etc.

Trace the wires with a volt meter from the windows back to the power source till you find the short.

Good luck, I hate electrical problems.

Well it looks like this may have to wait a day or 2 because there are no fuses that control the windows. I guess I don't know enough to try to figure out how the heck to read the manual. I did reset a circuit and hoped that worked but to no avail. It's just weird that the front windows and the rear window doesn't work. They look like they are separate. HELP!!!!

I would in no way say im the best, I would say med. fair. Bare with me I am a 2nd gen guy but I do have a bit of 1st gen knowledge by working on my buddies rigs.

check your power window relay and circuit breaker. This is the only thing that the front and rear windows share. It should be located behind the drivers side kick panel. Now bare in mind that you may have 2 separate issues, I'm just going after the simplest first.

It is the blue plugs circled in yellow.
The top 4 prong is for the relay and the big 2 prong is for the circuit breaker. If they are not there, replace them. Check those fuses too.

I read that the circuit breaker can be reset with a toothpick. Something about a hole in the center of the breaker... maybe it will be more clear when you actually see it.

You should be able to do a relay bypass mod as well.

Well, once i got that picture I was able to locate where that was. Driver's side kick panel. Looked at all the circuit breakers. Mine didn't look like that. They were both 2 prong. They were fine. Then I looked right above the panel and saw that everything was unplugged. All the wires that went to the door. HOW DID I NOT SEE THIS BEFORE!!!!!! Oh well. Got them all plugged back in. (hard chore with bear hands) Try driver's side door. SUCCESS!!!! Try passenger door. FAIL! So I go to the passenger side and see that it too had wires unplugged. Plug everything back in. Nothing. Look at motor. IT was unplugged. Try again. Nothing. Get frustrated and take a long piece of Romex and jump straight from battery to window motor. SUCCESS!!!!! Now at least my windows are up and I can get to driving this rig. Thanks for all of you guy's help.

I had passenger window problems, too.

Pretty much the same situation, but I ended up tapping, wiggling, and pushing in the relays and my window started working. The window goes up slower than it did when I jumped direct, so the relay still seems to need replacing, but now I can get some fresh air to the wife.

I assumed as much, but, just like I find good info in old threads, someone else might benefit from being reminded how touchy relays can be. Since you made your point, and others agree, I will probably stop. Sorry. I'm new to this and I'm unfamiliar with forum etiquette.

No worries, wasn't being a dick, it just gets annoying when people drag up very old threads. I know what you mean though, it is always good to find a solution when searching online.

Passenger Window 87 SR5

I can’t get my passenger window to go up or down with either switch. I’m getting voltage to the terminals at the motor plug. One terminal up and the other terminal when I push switch down. I don’t get continuity to ground on the in-energized terminal. I’m able to make the motor work when I run a ground wire. I did replace the passenger switch with switch docor replacement. Any ideas
