Window Tint @ 35%

I'm tinting the front windows of my 06 4Runner.

I'm not concerned with the "shade" of the tint (ie 20% back, with 35% front), I'm more concerned that the color matches.

The tint place I go to uses HP metalized tint (non-dyed). They told me not to worry about it.

Any personal experiences for those who tinted the front windows only @ 35%?

since the windows already have a greenish tinge to them, tinting them at 35% was useless when I did it the first time around. The darkness was just not enough for me so I retinted the front two windows at 25%.

if you tint the front two windows at 35%... it'll be a pretty close match with the back windows.. although the rear will still be darker.
 
as iForce said, since the windows have a slightly greenish hue, the film may look a bit green. its pretty hard to find a perfect color match, but it should be close. it's also hard since the windows already have that greenish hue, and the back windows don't. so when you apply the film, it'll make the front two windows look a little greener than the rest.

but the film will provide the protection. i guess you could try a ceramic film. it'll usually provide a stock look, but better protection. also comes with a price..

ask them to show you a roll of the tint or sample windows to see what it will look like because when i hear metalized i think:

yea the first time i had my windows tinted i did 35% and it was ok for a while then i tried out 20% and loved it. Then 15% to match the back. Then i wanted darker, put 5% over the rear 20% and 5% on the front 2, finally happy. Then i got in an accident(not because of the tint) and my insurance told me to take it off the front because of the accident and just put it back later.

So i guess what im saying is i think once you do 35%, your going to want to go darker.

And the color match to your stock windows is charcoal.
 
don't waste your money on 35%, its a joke. I did 15% on all rear because of the factory tint and 5% on front. Its a really good match, but it is illegal. I had limo on every vehicle I had, only got pulled over once ablut three years ago. Make sure the tint they use is black and not blueish or platanium, unless thats what you want.

Hilarious. And nice pic too.

The metallized tint I'm looking at looks black. I had it put on my wife's car already. It last longer and keeps the car cooler compared to standard dyed tints (or so they told me during the "upsale")





... now the mirror-chrome fade, damn that's P.I.M.P.
 
Metalized film has a much slower drying time also. Under normal drying conditions, which is a hot summer day, it will take 1 - 2 weeks; wintertime the drying time usually takes 30 days. Also, drying time depends on how much sun exposure the windows receive during the day. The more sun, the faster the drying.

on a hot summer day, it could take under a week. but it could take up to 2 weeks, sure. but for the most part, it would be shorter. and yeah, depending on sun exposure. try to keep it under the sun while its drying.

metallized film does last longer. it carries the lifetime warranty too. most dyed films will not, and probably have a life expectancy of a couple years. sometimes be lucky to have it last that long. hybrid films, a mix of dyed and metallized, also carries the lifetime warranty. it has less metal content, which allows it to be installed with cars equipped with navigation systems and usually fair better than fully metallized films due to interference. but having the metal content allows it to have that lifetime warranty.

i believe that with fully metallized films, however, is that you can't choose colors. color choice is left to dyed films mostly.

do remember, the warranties do cover fading. they don't cover scratches. best to double check what the manufacturer actually covers for the warranty, and yes it does depend on the film line as well.

where abouts do you live?

NC tint must be better then because anywhere you get tint done here its a lifetime garentee against bubbling, cracking, purpling, peeling, flaking, and delamination. The tint shops around here seem to be very high quality and very competitive.

oh, for the most part, the same goes.. but if you do request a dyed film, to attain the color or to get the tint job cheaper, dyed films typically don't carry a lifetime warranty. i think most carry a 3 - 5 year warranty. granted you can find a shop that carries dyed films. some higher end shops don't, some carry it for purposes of vehicles with navigation (which hybrid films usually do ok with).
 
Can somebody please post some before and after pics with the tinting on the front windows.
