Windshield Coatings - Pros/Cons? (5th gen Crack prevention)

Unfortunately, windshield replacement is covered just like a regular claim with my $500 comprehensive deductible and does indeed count as a claim filed on my policy (confirmed with my agent before I paid for windshield #2 "out of pocket" in August, and again when I called a few weeks ago to see about supplemental Windshield coverage that was mentioned elsewhere)..
Someone mentioned lowering my deductible and just filing claims whenever necessary, but I'd end up being dropped with my luck (and I'm sure my premiums would skyrocket for a $50 or $100 deductible). My truck is payed off, so I don't even technically need comprehensive coverage by law, but have it as a safety net (thus I opted for the higher deductible)...
Of course, filling in rock chips is free with most any policy (had that done 3 times on my original windshield) - and that won't ever increase premiums to my knowledge.

I feel your pain. I am also on windshield número tres in my 4runner. And number 4 on my tundra. I actually had a brick come completely through the windshield of my tundra at 290 and beltway8 intersection. I just about crapped my pants. All this construction on 290/610/45 has destroyed my cars between chips and what not. I had the same problem with the insurance company and I have to pay the full deductible for a windshield. It's just cheaper to go to binswanger and get it replaced for cash.

I'll likely just keep replacing the windshields as needed through Safelite for a little under $500 per instance.
I've pondered setting up a special "windshield fund" for just this purpose - might even do a $50/Paycheck ($100/Month) direct deposit into that fund and see if it stays full enough
The I-45 re-paving project (I45 @ 610 North area) might wrap up sooner than I think (the debris from this particular project is simply unacceptable!!!), but that is only one small part of the Houston freeway construction puzzle...
About time to make that drive to work right now

Seriously, look at binswanger. Your closer to 300. Safelite screwed up my paint and had to reinstall the windshield several times. I moved to binswanger who has a great warranty, is much cheaper, and took the time to protect my vehicle during installation.

Will give them a shout. I used them on my old '87 T4R (15 years ago) and didn't have any complaints. Just curious - was that ~$300 price including the heated wiper park area and 3rd visor (behind the mirror)?

I live in the great state of CO which means frequent rocks and chips in windshield.
I only have 3K miles on the car and have a few small chips.
My last car had some really good “acoustic” OEM glass.
Is there any Toyota or another manufacturer glass for the 4Runner that is a higher quality or acoustic?
