What a co-inkydink. A rock busted my windshield on the drive up to Colorado this Tuesday.

I didn't get the windshield replaced at the dealer. I took it in to the local dealer and was less than impressed with their service dept. I decided to go through Safe-Lite Autoglass and it cost $240. They were able to get the electrochromatic mirror and all the state/fed. gvt stickers onto the new glass without a problem. Scheduled it Wed, took it in Thurs, and it took less than an hour to do.

Nice and clear. The only thing that I have noticed while driving it tonight is that the four extreem corners seem to glare a little more than I remember the old one to, but it may just be my imagination.

Mine cracked about 3 months after I got it. I got mine installed at SPeedy Glass and had them install the OEM (I have the limited so it uses the fancy windshield). The cost then (Feb 03) was $1200, but I claimed through the insurance (cost me $100). It was difficult then to get one as it was still a new model range. SO I would assume the price would have dropped a lot lately.

As I said I got the OEM windshield so it is the same as that original.

What's the difference with the windshield? I hadn't noticed any difference so far..

How large are the cracks? If they are under a certain diameter, then the cracks can be sealed instead of paying over a grand for a new one. I cracked mine like 6 months ago, dime size crack, and had it sealed, can't even notice it now.

I have the same one in my SE it has some kind of coating on it. I don't blame you for getting the OEM if you just have to pay $100 deductable, but if you have to pay the whole thing yourself, I would go with the after market at $240 :)

My July 4th mishap on I-85. I guess I will know the cost of windshield replacement real soon.

What's this coating you guys are talking about? Is it that Hydrophyllic glass? I thought that was only on the side and rear windows. It doesn't look like the front windshield has it.

just got a price from hudsomn toyota.
$530 installed.

now I have to call the insurance and to see how much they cover

I payed 350 to replace mine with Pilkington windshield. Pilkington is a name reand windshield. It is one of the windshields that the major motor companies use such as GM use on their Cadilac's.

It's the coating thats on the rear window and side windows. It "repels" water like RainX but it's a permanent coating.

O.. I have no clue. But if I were to guess I am going to say no because I did notice that the other one looked cleaner when it first starts to rain. Either way, I wouldn't have gotten it from the dealer if that was the only benefit. They wanted something like 450 just for the glass without installation. the extra 200 is not worth the labor of throwing some rainx on it once every few weeks.

The hydrophyllic coating isn't on the front windshield...

Don't know why the dealership costs more, just that they always do :(

A $7 bottle of RainX goes a LONG way ;):

Some insurance companies cover up to x number of windshields per year (and your premiums don't go up at all) so check w/ your ins company.

I had to replace my windshield and it costed me $300 installed and they came out to my office!

good news from insurance.
I don't have to pay a dime for the windshield.

they made the appoitment with the auto class to come to my house and change the windshield. Insurance cover all charges

These guys are coming to work on the windshield this saturday.
How would I know if I'm getting the right windshield before they install it.

I heard that the limited glass is different than the others and the price twice the $$$$$$$$$$$

There is a difference between the limited and SR5/Sport. What it is I dont know. Call your dealers parts dept and ask them. The price is just 5 .00 difference. It might be worth it to get the limited one.
