Winter Survival Pack

It's not OT. It's two full-time jobs. Christmas is coming and i have to buy lotsa gifts and presents to include my 90K maintenance coming up.

So you do that every day? Wow...

For some reason I thought you were really young... like college age or something. No school for you?

For now i do, did i mention i have a part-time job on Sat/Sun. Guess i'm workaholic. But i love the smell of money. LOL Anyways, i took the 3 jobs in case i get laid-off from one or the other. It's a competition out there.
It also helps me build my resume. I think i got like 5 pages now on my resume. Maybe next year i'll drop one job and go back to school, mingle and flirt around the hotties and get my Masters. :D

Okay, but here's a secret for you: Go out and find ONE job that pays you all the money you need/want. Then you'll have plenty of time to have fun AND have the money you need to have fun.

And don't get too caught up with resumes. A 5-page resume wouldn't even be read by most employers. It's nice to have experience in various areas, but too much variety can look bad to potential employers too. You really want to gain expertise in a particular area because THAT is what makes you a valuable employee. Getting your Masters is a good idea too. That can only help you make more money in the long run. It certainly helped me a great deal.

That's impossible. One job pays $17/hr, the other pays $21.50, the weekend only pays $12.75. All 3 jobs are not the same.

Yeah, most employers don't read 3+ pager resumes. I already got embarrassed submitting 1 and 2-pager resumes during on some interviews. One interview i had was "You worked all these years doing the same thing and you only have 1 page worth of experience? Why should we hire you?".

When i got hired from these 3 jobs, i had a 4-page resume. And one of them was like, "Among all of the candidates for this job, you're the most experienced one i've ever seen. I have talked to your former supervisors and here i am handing you an Offer Letter. Please let me know when you'd like to start."

I always have my bug out bag which will let me survive for 72 hours. If you are going to stay in the 4Runner all you really need for 72 hours is warmth and water.

Since its getting cooler I will add a real blanket (not just a space blanket)

Here's what I can think of that's in the bag
2 self heating MREs
energy bars
Lots of water
3 ways to start fire
knife
multi tool
1911
2x30 round AK mags
2x28 round AR mags
first aid
water purification
compass and GPS
AA and 123 batteries
deck of cards
flask of whisky
space blanket
emergency rain gear
trashbags
folding saw
NBC mask
smoke grenade

Think about what you're saying. Forget the weekend job for a moment and just focus on the two full-time jobs. You work for $19.25 when you average those two jobs. That means you gross $1540.00/week after working 80 hours every week. I'm not sure what you do for a living, but it's not impossible to find a job where you earn more than $1540.00/week after working a regular 40-hour week. This is especially true if you already have a bachelor degree. What kind of work do you do?

That question embarrassed you? Seriously? You could have jumped on the opportunity to absolutely shine during your interview by politely explaining to him that the number of pages in your resume has nothing to do with your amount of experience. He was probably just testing you to see how you responded to the question and to see if you got flustered.

Now if he was serious with his question and was disappointed by your resume, then you should have walked out the door immediately. Personally, I wouldn't want to work for a company with idiots in charge.

If you want to move into a job where you make more money, do yourself a favor and have your resume written by professionals. It will not be four pages long. Resumes that long get skipped over all the time because nobody wants to spend that much time reading them when they are among a ton of other resumes belonging to other potential job candidates. Trust me, I've been on both sides of the interview table. I've been hired and I've hired other people.

great ideas. just learned about "canned heet" alcohol put in the gas tank eliminates the water which could freeze in the tank at 40 below.......heck who knew??

Had this happen to my Lumina in -40F a few years back, the gas line froze and I couldn't start it for weeks until it thawed out.

Alaskaman how did that trip ever go? Pictures? Even though this is an old thread I did not hear much mentioned about making sure your vehicle is in tip-top shape. That is important also in a survival situtation.
