Winter Tires???

I'm looking to know which brand of tires are best for winter (snow/ice) conditions that I can use of my 03 v8 SR5? My plan is to purchase wheels and tires specifically for the winter and change them at the beginning and end of each season. Currently, I'm running with dealership Dunlops and my truck slid all over the place yesterday driving back from Tahoe.

As well, does anyone have suggestions for wheels? I've read that many people purchase steel wheels, is that necessary?

I had Bridgstone Winter Dueler Dmz3 on my old Jeep or at leased I think that is what they were called anyway WoW this was the best winter tire I have ever run. The only problem is they wear out quite fast this is why I dont run them on my 4runner I do to many miles now and I do not want to replace them every season. If you run them at all on a warm day you can almost smell the rubber wearing off as you drive.

I did put some Cooper snows on my wifes car this winter and im quite impressed with them.
