Winter tires

What do you recommend for Winter/Snow tires?

I wanted to get the Michelin X-ice X-i2 but read they are not good in rain and it rains often here.

Are you sure you need dedicated winter tires??? Especially since it rains often there...

Unless specifically regulated by your local laws or ordinances, you may be very well served by AT tires that offer good all-around traction in snow, rain, dry surface, off-road, etc... Goodyear Silent Armor, for example, has a Snow-flake rating that satisfies most snow tire regulations.

But if you want the dedicated winter tires, then nothing beats Nokian winter tires.
 
Im also thinking about winter but live in NJ so am thinking about AT tires like the Bridgestone revo 2's. I see Bridgestone also has a rebate now... worth having a look...
 
I ran the GY SA's previously, and they were great on snow and ice. I can't see a 4R needing a dedicated set of snow tires
 
I second the Nokians, I've used them on my Volvos here in Ottawa for the last 16 years and they've been terrific. However, it sounds like they're way more winter tire than you need (not knowing where you're located).

Having said that, I'm in the market for steel wheels and snows myself over the next four weeks and will likely go with Blizzaks. I don't think my old heart will take hearing what a comparable set of Nokians might cost....
 
My BFG KO's are an absolute beast in the snow. 've easily gone through 2+ feet of the certain types. Ice is another story - as with every other tire.
 
Definitely recommend the Nokians. I run the hakkapeliitta SUV from Dec. to March (I'm in Morris co. nj) and the Nokian Vatiiva A/T the other 3 seasons. The 4runner was already great in snow with 4wd and the stock Mich CTs, but feels like a tank with the Nokians. I'm not really sure if I NEED snow tires, but I am just an extra careful guy esp. with the new baby on board. I'm actually thinking of getting Duratracs maybe year round, but probably will still use dedicated snows due to my OCD haha. bottom line - Nokians rock!

I live in vancouver bc. Lots of rain, icy roads in winter, and occassional snow in the winter. It's unpredictable in the winter so I rather not it and getting caught in snow fall or icy roads.
 
Goodyear Forterra. For me they have been great for logging roads (some very steep), rain, and snow (driving up to the local north shore mountains in bad conditions) treadwear is good as well. I noticed Fountain has the 4 for 3 sale right now. When it's time to replace I'm getting the same ones again.
 
I use Michelin Xice 2's on my 4 Runner and love them. In the past I have used just A/T tires but I like the winter rubber compound and increased traction on ice with my Michelins.
