Wiring aux backup lights to a switch and factory backup lights

Hello all

I purchase a set of flush mount led lights I plan on cutting them into my factory bumper as aux backup lights

. I also ordered a wiring harness for ease of installation. The picture below is the wiring digram from the harness. My question is I would like to hook these up so that when I put my truck in reverse both lights come on and the aux lights can also be on a switch. What do you think my best bet is to tap into the aux lights? And what wires are power and ground for my backup lights?

Nice job. I assume the black wires in the harness are all ground and the white is switched power, red is source power. Weird colors, but ok.

Your back-up light power is a white-blue wire you can find in either kick panel. Ground is straight to chassis at the light.

How you tap depends on how you want the lights to behave. Do you want the light switch to work 24/7 or key on only? If key on only is acceptable, I would tap anywhere in the GAUGE circuit for the switch power as that feeds the stock lights, and thus you would avoid having two fuses feeding the same circuit. Think about how easy it is to leave those on and drain the battery.

If you want 24/7, then just jump the main source red to the switch source red, but I would add a diode at the tap to stock light circuit so that power only comes from the GAUGE circuit to the aux lights, and can't feed back.

Ok. I think I'm going to tap into the power wire for the reverse light and jump it to the power side of the lights and use a diode. The switch is already tapped into switched power so they only work when the key is on. What size diode do you think should be sufficient?

I put those same lights on my ride when I built my bumper. I did the same sort of wiring you're talking about. I just ran the lights normal with the wiring harness, and then traced the wire coming off my reverse lights and tapped into there. I put a second switch in the loop in the back of the vehicle so if I don't want them to come on when I put it in reverse I can turn that off (mostly a concern during inspection). I did have one light go bad after ~a week and had to have Amazon send me a new one.

I'm about to do the same install. I made some vinyl decals of the light dimensions to help placement/alignment and cutting into the bumper. IF anyone wants a set, let me know, it should help make the install easier.
