Wiring raptor lights to button?

When I had my Tacoma with the led light bar I did the same thing with the switch but I’m want to add the raptor lights to my Pro. It is nice to be able to turn them off and on. Watching running4tacos video they have the wires going right into the fuse box in the engine and stay on with there lights are on. Are most guys running the raptor lights that way?

i ordered a 3 light and 4 light kit from overland depot, both of them are powered via an add-a-fuse line and stay on the entire time the truck has power

Any reason you chose to purchase them from overland depot. Just curious if they are all the same quality.

Glad this worked out for you. I used a switch from Air On Board and they kind of give you a basic schematic (which I found helpful) to do the wiring to the switch correctly. And sure, do I have them on all the time? More often then not, but I like having the option to turn them off since I dont always run them with the lights on and vice versa.

This isn't helpful now, but if anyone wants circular shaped LEDs and feels decently confident in basic wiring, the ones from superbrightleds work great. Rock Creek Overland has a write-up, so just navigating the wiring harness to the switch and pushing through the firewall are the hardest parts.

Any reason you chose to purchase them from overland depot. Just curious if they are all the same quality.

i just saw them advertised somewhere and it was during black friday sales. looking on ebay, they tend to be mostly the same with kits found on there

to be honest: the quality on the 4 bar setup was pretty good. the only thing I did was add some electrical "liquid tape" to where the wiring went into the back of each light. this helped 100% seal them up from the elements which I believe should have been done from the factory.

This was my first experience adding a switch to existing lights (as I'm an electrical retard) and it all worked out. So now have confidence I can tackle something else electrical in the future if i need to.

Might add an amp and a sub one day.

I read through this thread many times and watched the video(s). Very helpful in helping me figure out what I need! But, I'm a little lost on what to do now.

You'll see, from the attached image, that I'm trying to connect the lights to an OEM switch I'll mount in a blank switch spot.

I didn't get a wiring diagram from AOB (regarding the switch) so, I'm not really sure which wires go where. Any help would be appreciated.

I just wired mine so that they come on only when the headlights are turned on. I didn't see a reason to have them on all the time but wanted them on at night for sure.

A little trick to save the confusion when trying matching colored wires to a different wire harness.
Buy a kit of multi colored shrink tube in the correct wire Gage. Cut small pieces of the tube in the matching color and slide it over the wire. so now both wires are identified with the same color. do this on both ends of the harness. If the harness has a per wired connector make sure you slide the shrink tube down the wire to the connector first and then another piece at the slice. this will help you identify color to color and help prevent confusion later when you trouble shoot. You can usually purchase this at HF or your local HD.

There are a couple diagrams on google images and if you search on here. If I remember correctly, I did green to the add-a-fuse to the fuse panel under the steering wheel. Then red was to the raptor light harness. Black to ground. I left the blue wire alone, which allows the switch to be dimly lit when you turn your lights off if the switch is not engaged. I didn't want to spend time t-tapping into something and possibly getting it wrong, so I left it alone. Hope this helps.

I had some wired to my Switch-Pros only cause the Leds were stupid bright so I would turn off depending on the occasion.

I initially wired my raptor lights up like you. Then I added a switch by doing the following:

Get this wiring harness:

I cut the switch off this harness and added my own OEM style switch. The colors of wire coming from the switch will not match up exactly with the colors from the wiring harness, so you might have to play around with it in order to get it to work. There is a youtube video of some kid adding an OEM style switch to this wiring harness on his Tacoma. It's a helpful reference.

Pardon my lack experience here, but I have a small issue I’m trying to resolve. I ordered this exact wiring harness from Amazon. I followed your direction from the previous posts and connected the raptor lights to the black and white coming out of the relay. Then ran the switch inside and connected it to my AOB switch...now I’m starring at a black and red wire that comes out of the white connector that goes to the Amazon switch. Where did you connect the red to?
I tried the red directly to the battery, but the raptor lights comes on even when the vehicle is off and no key in the ignition. Is that how it’s suppose to be?
The black is obviously ground, but I’m just so confused by the red wire.

You can also just tap into the parking light wire, so the raptor lights are only on when your headlights are on. It just depends on how you want it.

I am assuming you are talking about the wire that should either go to an "add a fuse", you can tap into a fuse that is "hot" when the vehicle is on. You can also just tap into the parking light wire, so the raptor lights are only on when your headlights are on. It just depends on how you want it.

See if this pic helps. My blue coming from the ARB switch is the one I had connected with an add a fuse so it lights up when I turn the key. If I’m understanding you correctly then I would end up with 2 add a fuses? Thanks

You don't need to have 2 add a fuses, you can have both wires going into the crimp part on the same add a fuse.

I’m I’m gonna try that. Is it correct that the high voltage is only drawn through the relay? So there is never any chance of any short or melting in the switch harness?

Tried and didn’t work. It appears that even though I bought the same harness as mentioned earlier, it’s not correct for my application. I only have 1 single white wire going from the relay towards the ARB switch. And just before the switch it splits into 3.

This video breaks it down real easy and is applicable to connecting any light setup with a button. I followed this video to a T and found success in wiring my raptors to a switch. Early in the video he goes over the wiring diagram.
