I will be departing Woodbridge, VA bound for Texas with the 4runner.

July 9th 7:30PM FIRST LEG - Woodbridge, VA to Clarksville, TN

Travel Time: will be approximately 12 Hours and 30 Minutes covering a distance of approximately 720 miles.

Should all things go well, I will get some shut eye at my sisters for approx 3 - 4 hours. From that point, my sister will have her vehicle packed and stacked, ready for departure as she and I will caravan the kids to remaining distance.

July 10th 12:30PM SECOND LEG - Clarksville, TN - Somerville TX

Travel Time: will be approximately 14 Hours and 30 Minutes covering a distance of approximately 843 Miles.

I haven't a clue when we will arrive as I can not gauge the frequency of stops. For the second leg, I will be leading the way and intend not to exceed the speed limit by more than 10mph though really, I intend to follow the flow of traffic - because my sister has the heavier foot.

Wish me luck. I have done everything I can possibly think of.

just inflated the tires (from 32psi) to 34 cold,
I have 6 road flares
1 flashlight
1 first aid kit
2 roles of TP
1 gal. of distilled water
2 gal. tank of gas (washed the exterior with soap and water)
Have the navigation programmed
1 bottle of lysol (for the kids to use for bathroom stops)
1 bottle of hand cleaner dissinfectant (rub on evaporate kind)
Cell phone w/ charger
Easy access to vehicle registration, proof of insurance
Blankets, pillows, towels

Help me to think of anything I may have missed and wish me safe traveling!

How about Windex or Glass Plus and roll of paper towels. Gas station window squeegies sometimes add more dirt than they remove.

Spare vehicle key (that's not left in the vehicle)

Fresh wax job before leaving makes getting the bugs off later much easier.

If you use Rain-X, refresh it before going since you "may" catch some of the hurricane rain headed into that area from the gulf. Umbrella(s) for the same reason.

You know, I never did go back to Toyota to have that plastic key cut.

But I will have my spare keyfob and second key on me at all times.

I hear you about the wax job but I won't have time to fit that in, unless I do it tonight. Perhaps I will just wax the front clip and mirrors.

And I do have the Rain-X. Will be sure to apply that to the windows. But I did not think of that.

sommerville, eh? that's like 20-30 miles down the road from me...want a huge steak? try the "Country Inn" there on Hwy 36 in Sommerville. Some call the the "Sommerville Steak House", but...also the Blue Bell Creamery (Ice Cream, not as good as ben-n-jerry's, buut) is there just down the road in brenham. makes a good hot afternoon tour.

Re-Rain-X'ing would be a good thing. we've been having odd weather as of late. actually, we usually have odd weather, so...but the weather out in the Brazos bottom (and just west of it) do tend to get a bit of rain.

Glass cleaners can strip Rain-X off. I use Rain-X windshield washer instead -- it cleans very well and refreshes the Rain-X as you go. You can buy a gallon and put in your own spray bottle.

Having just gone up the Mississippi River on I-55, bugs are a huge problem. I took newspaper to clean the windows but it wasn't enough. Get a 97-cent bug cleaning sponge from the store. Spray the windshield, use the bug scrubber to get the bugs off, then polish the windows with newspaper. I usually follow with a t-shirt to ensure no streaks.

To communicate between the vehicles, if you don't want to use the cell phone, you can use either CB radio or the walkie-talkies that have a good range. Personally, I prefer CB radio so you can also monitor channel 19 for traffic conditions...you can learn a lot from the truckers coming the other direction.

Will do, thanks! I have driven by about 3 times, since mid april and you have been out every time! Well, at least the 4runner was missing out the driveway. I do remember you mentioning a temporary duty up north(?) - so perhaps that is where you are.

Have been meaning to sport the blacked out tail and front lamp units. I like the look, ESPECIALLY since no manufacturer makes the front lamps (black out)!

The navigation (aka Betty) hasn't failed me yet!

hot damn, you got your new tails and head lights! yeah you really need to swing by so I can see them!

I'm STILL waiting for my complete black tail lights from the aftermarket group buy. I'm suppose to get my next (hopefully final) shipment on Monday (long story I'll explain if you want).

Yeah I've been traveling on and off for the past month. Funny thing was I was in Miami last week and one of the IT guys must have been your twin brother!!!
