Good question. All racks will have a flat shelf welded in the bottom of the front section to make mounting various lights or accessories possible. Additionally, I can weld on light tabs anywhere you like for $5 each.

Found some GREAT photos of [MENTION=63060]rickashay[/MENTION] 's rig. His is obviously a 3rd gen but he opted for the full length floor option and has this great photo showing it. He also made his own wind fairing from plexiglass, a simple project that works like a dream. If you have time, look up his wheeling pics thread, his photography work is amazing.

BlackWorks, the brackets are about as tight as they can comfortably be. As they sit, the center of the rack is about 3/8-7/16" from the roof. This is to allow for a little room for flex which will happen when heavier loads get bouncing on a rough road or trail. However, if you want one tucked in even tighter I'm game. Also, the mesh is welded in to eliminate any noise from it bouncing.

Darn, I thought as much. I had hoped the left to right curvature of the roof was far flatter that it looked. Oh well, still a great product! Now all I need is money! LoL

i cant find any customer photos with my current insert setup. theizzardking has one i built with square tube and has some good photos in his build thread, http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/122545-rise-silver-pheonix-build-thread.html , though they dont show much detail on the insert. i now use round tube, radiused corners, hinged in the rear and bolts down in the front.

Does it narrow towards the front?

Maybe the pictures are playing tricks on my eyes, but your 3rd gen rack seems to be the same width front to back but this one seems to narrow a bit towards the front. It may be how the feet are mounted that are throwing me off.

Nope, its the same width front to back, its actually the mounting channel on the 4th gen roof that WIDENS towards the front, which is what makes these a little tricky and gave me ulcers setting up the jig. heres a finished photo of deedst4r's rack, you can see the mounts are obviously different and have the angles of the roof built into them.

1. Are the mounting feet tie downs standard?

2. Could you do two evenly spaced front braces (instead of the four) between the top and bottom rails without losing structural integrity?

3. Would you consider/have you done adjustable cross rails for mounting things such as ski racks, etc?

The tie down points can be left off if you hate them, I just thought it made sense to make use of that realestate. I can customize these pretty much any way you like, within reason, so a different frontal design is no big deal, it just has to have "some" support up there. I can make adjustable crossbars but the hardware I'm limited to isn't the "prettiest", its strong and functional though. I'll see if I can find a pic.

Here we go, little hard to see, 40 each, and they're 1" to accept popular accessories.
