Wobble on Braking

Could be you have brake pad deposits or a warped rotor. My truck had a seized caliper when the dealer got it and they only replaced the caliper, not the rotor or pad. So the rotor is warped from when the caliper WAS seized and I get the same symptoms as you.
I figure I'll deal with it for now and change the rotors when the pads are dead.

An out of balance wheel will shake at all times, not just when braking.
Your problem is brakes related. My money is on warped rotor - wobble when braking slowly but stopping when jamming on brakes is usually a classic warped rotor symptom. Could be siezed caliper also as 4th gens (including mine) are known to have siezed calipers.
Definitely not wheel balancing related.

I thought the same thing. but a rebalance did fix my issue.
I hate the term warped rotor, more likely deposits on the rotor if its the rotor.
However, had the same issue on my MDX. After a bunch of attempts to fix it, turned out to be a tire that was out of round. Got lucky that the new discount tire by my house had a newer style balancer that detected it.
An older discount tire down the road from me attempted to balance it 3 times but never caught that it was out of round.

I've heard that the 5th gen brakes bolt right up and won't seize on ya...there should be a "5th gen brake swap" thread somewhere around here.

Hello all,
I wracking my brain and now your collective brain to solve a mystery front end and steering wheel shake upon braking at all highway speeds. In the last year the following have been replaced on my 195,000 mile 2008 sport edition 4wd 4.7 v8: steering rack, drive axles on front, ball joints, brake discs front and back with new pads, front wheel bearings and brackets, front end bushings, front shocks, tie rods, wheels for new TRD black wheels, tire rebalancing and rotations, and multiple other small parts. All of this work was performed by dealerships and with OEM parts. None of it has changed the wheel shake. I'm considering now replacing the front calipers to see if one of the slave cylinders has been damaged by moisture in the brake fluid.
I'm from a family of mechanics and because they are older and out of the loop on newer cars none of them really know what is happening. I've tapped all of the locals who are still great at the business of suspension and brakes but no one really knows what is happening.
The car doesn't pull left or right all it does is shake but up until 180,000 miles this never happened. I keep up with maintenance and this is very disconcerting. Anybody ever solve this issue definitively and not have it return. I love my truck and have long term plans to keep it up and drive it until it falls out from under me. Help Please!

I had the same issue when I purchased my 4Runner back in November. I had two seized callipers. All four were changed as well as all rotors and pads at the same time. I can’t say for sure it was the callipers causing the shaking, but it was definitely brake related. Considering you’ve done the rotors and pads already, you should definitely have a closer look at your callipers.
