Well, verify that you really are stuck in 4WD and if so fix that, then see if OD works again?
I don't know how the truck would spontaneously go into 4WD as you're driving on the freeway, and if it did (without giving a 4WD light on the dash) I don't know how the ECU would know about it. For the truck to be in 4WD, you have to have the shifter in 4WD to put the tcase in, and you have to have the vacuum collar on the front diff engage the longside CV shaft (unless you have manual hubs, in which case they need to be locked in). I don't know how you'd be in 4wd with the shifter in 2hi, unless the shift fork is broken, but how that happens without help on the freeway is beyond me?
In any case, if you're in 2wd the front driveshaft should spin free. Make sure the selecter is in 2hi (and the manual hubs are unlocked, if you have them) then crawl under there with a set of gloves and try and turn it - if it spins, you are definitely not stuck in 4wd. If it doesn't spin, then you're right that it's stuck in 4WD at the tcase or the diff and you'll need to dig further to find out why.
