Won't start

Hey guys, here's the situation. Wake up this morning and leave the fiances house. 4Runner starts right up no problem and I drive home. The car definitely didn't have time to warm up because of the short drive. Spend 30 minutes getting ready and come out to start the car and now it won't start. It barely sounded like it was firing up and then sputtered out. Came back this afternoon and car still won't start.

Car is turning over no problem. Battery was recently replaced and new battery terminals were added. I also drive 50 minutes each way to work so unless there is something wrong with the alternator the power should be good.

I also replaced the starter contacts recently. My next guess is fuel or spark but I just wanted to check if anyone had any insight before I spend the weekend heading down the wrong path. Are there any specific fuses to check or techniques for tracking down spark/fuel delivery issues?

I have an OBD reader with Torque? Any chance I can get some readings with that to help with diagnosis?

I'd start by checking for pending codes, spark, then fuel. Guessing air cleaner is good? :cowboy:

Turning over very strong. Just got done confirming that the fuel pump relay and EFI relay are both working.

Also checked and there are no fault codes on the ECU.

Also confirmed that spark plugs are firing. Pulled one and had a friend watch while I turned the engine over.

Can anyone explain the process of jumping the fuel pump to check if it is operating using the diagnosis port in the engine bay? I haven't been able to find any clear instructions on how to do it. Thanks

I decided to test the fuel pump. Had power from the battery going to pin 4 on the fuel pump and pin 5 going to the battery. Made sure on the wire side that it was blue/orange and white/black. I couldn't hear anything when I did that so I'm assuming that's the culprit.

Plan is to pump some starting fluid in just to confirm and then order a denso pump.

It seems like you have this figured out but I think you mean pin 5 going to ground? So you provided power & ground directly to the pump and it did not run - seems conclusive. You could also check resistance with the harness disconnected- spec is 0.2-3.0 ohms.

Final update. Fuel pump fixed the starting issue which means the pump literally died in after one short drive. It was the original pump with 275k.
