whoa! :bugeye: yeah, that looks decent. borderline O.W. (over wood!). i'd probably just do the main silver panel and the glove box piece. is that the kit from burtman industries? they claim that it won't damage the silver trim to take the stick-ons off if i don't like them so i may just shell out the dough give it a try. thanks for the photochop!

Yes thats Jason's kit...it actually looks like the right kind of match for your steering wheel

if it were me, i wouldnt do the ac controls and possibly not the pocket under them...i'd have to see how it looks in person *hehe*

maybe you could get a small sample piece to see if it matches....

If I was to do a woodtrim kit, I would do it like the RX330. Leave the silver trim by the radio and do the bottom part and doors in wood. Here is a picture to show you what I am talking about.

the steering wheel controls don't cost too much but the airbag module is in the hundreds of dollars to replace since it's not the same. there's a thread somewhere of someone who tried pricing this total upgrade and i think it was over $1k.

the telescopic feature is built into the steering column and although i wasn't paying attention to it, i don't think i got any better glimpse into that mechanism with the steering wheel off.

It's kind of funny how Toyota took away the telescoping function in 2004. My 2003 SR5 has it and I'm glad it does.

Thanks for posting so many pictures! It looks really good, but I think the car looks better without the wood trim on the dash, or maybe just a few pieces here and there to complement the steering wheel.

4RunningGuy, I decided to install the leather one in my Highlander (they use the same wheel on both), so all I have left to sell is the same Urethane steering wheel that comes stock on the SR5 4Runner and the Highlander. And I don't think I'll be able to sell one of these until the 4th gens. get a little older..

I know some others who are upgrading to wood steering wheels so maybe they'll contact you if they see this. good luck!

I'm not slowginjoe, but I can answer your questions. No wiring changes need to be made and you use your old airbag. The only thing you have to do is take off the wheel, move all the switches along with the airbag from your current wheel to the new one.

Hi guys. It is so nice to know that i am not the only one a little frustrated with my SR5. Even though my car is a loaded SR i still would like the toys from limited. I got myself few additions such as a visors with mirrors, the homelink and a leather stick knob. I wanted the lighted step rails and steering wheel. There was a guy on ebay parting a Limited of the same color as mine. To my great surprise i discovered that SR5, Sport and Limited are totally different animals. True cars look the same, but inside there are very few similarities, such as the wiring harneses are different and you can't just buy a part from limited and expect it to work. I took half of my car apart and found that it does not have some holes and mountings. Well I didn't know about the limited when i bought mine, I guess if I had the limited I would have wanted other toys...

hi alexjet, like tkr128 said, it's almost like plug and play. took me about 15 mintues. you won't need any extra parts or change any wiring to install it. just buy the wheel and use some simple tools and elbow grease. there's installation instructions in this thread if you work your way back. good luck!

I would like to know if a SR5 owner could purchase the leather steering wheel with volume controls. I'd love to have the controls on my steering column. I know you would have to order the harness that goes from the steering control module to the radio from the dealership. I also would like the leather shifter knob, but am considering buying an aftermarket one!!

in order to add steering controls you'd have to replace the airbag as well. there's 2 versions of the airbag, one with and one without the controls. it's pretty expensive to buy. someone added all the parts up in one of these threads and it was around $1,000.
