My '01 is at the "spa" getting much needed tlc right now: timing belt, water pump, rollers, thermostat, accessory belts, radiator, etc. My friend who's doing the job texted me to say he's almost done. Can't wait to pick her up!

Posting here because you are the only people i know who would share my excitement about a timing belt and new radiator.

Just did all that stuff recently as well, on top of new UBJ, LBJ, ITRE, OTRE, sway bar links, new Bilsteins, and all new fluids stem-to-stern (with two types of grease of course...yeah I got a little carried away). Runs GREAT, almost better than my '06 with over 100k less miles. As much as I love my '06, it certainly doesn't feel as rugged or as much like a "Swiss Army Knife-truck" as the old 3rd gen that keeps purring away.

Throw a coat of wax on when you get it back and it'll still look better than any new rig on the road. I wish Toyota would make trucks as rugged as the 3rd gen forever, but all good things...

Yep feels good to get your loved vehicle all freshened up. I have ben doing a bunch to my 4runner since i got it a month ago. New shocks all around, Engery Suspension front control arm bushing, all new full synthetic fluids and i mean every fluid in the truck, radiator, hoses, battery, alternator, new oem ubj boots and grease, new steering rack boots, oem rear pinion seal, 265/75R16 tires, alignment. Getting the parts to fix the rear hatch electronics. Still need to do the timing belt and spark plugs. I have done more little things as well. Keep up on maintenance and fix what breaks and it will go for many more years.

Got her back yesterday and she's purring like a kitten. The wobbly gobbly sound the engine was making at idle is gone (friend says the accessory belts were probably the culprit). She just runs a little smoother, little quieter, and a little more "solid". And as you guys know, when you're tuned into your truck like we are, a little means a lot.

Whacha Mean by "rollers"?

Also, nice on getting some big stuff knocked out, if treated right your truck will be replaced around the motor.

Ah okay, you had be scared for a second, I thought you were talking rocker rollers and I was like since when is a 3rd gen a push rod motor, had me nervous for a second, I was like I had the valve covers off just a few months ago and I thought I replaced everything, never saw rocker rollers!

I am amazed after replacing my sixteen year old timing belt how much faster my 4runner now starts with the new one.

Yeah, by rollers i mean Idler roller, tensioner roller and hydraulic tensioner. Replaced along with camshaft seals and the above mentioned as part of aircabinman's tb kit.

Radiator was separate of course and not part of the kit, but way overdue for replacement.
