Words of warning: Black interior w/ softex

SofTex realtime report: I'm in Jackson, MS, right now. Wife driving '15 ST5P with seats that have black trim/light gray inserts. 93*F outside. Been in 4R more than an hour.

No sweat. Seats breathe fine, not sure I can tell the difference from the leather in my Tundra.

We've not yet had an interior catastrophe, but these seats have always seemed to resist getting dirty and we keep 'em clean with very little effort.

We've got a dog. On occasion, she gets dirty. Did I mention she's a dog? So we bathe her. She was in the truck earlier today.

Does this clear everything up?

I don't mind the softex in mine but leather is really the one thing I wish mine had. I guess I've been spoiled by my last few vehicles and know that in reality only the back and butt parts are "true" leather. My seats clean well enough but do notice they seem to be dust traps. Could honestly care less about dirt on the outside of the rig but try to keep the inside as clean as possible.

Thought of the wet okoles and after having seen them in a friends SuperDuty, can say they are very well made and fit perfect. But as someone else pointed out the fact that they don't breathe is a bit of a deal breaker unless your not constantly in and out of the tuck while soaked.

Had seat coolers in my Ford. Neat feature but not really all its cracked up to be IMO. Had numerous people say it feel like they pissed themselves lol.

If I had the money Id get Katzkins, little priceyyy though.
 
I had Wet Okoles in my Wrangler and agree they were hardy, very well constructed. Now I know I did mostly top off driving but they got dirty enough for me to have to order a specific neoprene cleaner. For my top off Jeep...

And were they hot? OMG THEY WERE SMOKING HOT TO SIT ON!!!!!!
 
That's why you get a dog that doesn't shed and keep it in the back. This is our setup.

I don't have a pic of the protective liner but it is great! Water resistant, machine washable and padded for the pup. When we go somewhere, we just crack the windows, give him a bit more of an opening in the back window (one of the best features of the T4R) give him his water bowl and be on our way.

Agreed, I never mentioned NOT cleaning it at all. i appreciate my 4Runner as much as the next guy. Just saying find that happy medium or you will never actually enjoy your ride if you're too paranoid. I wash about once a week atleast, and keep cleaning supplies inside the 4Runner at all times.
 
My dog makes less of a mess than my kid. If my dog wants to sit up front he gets buckled down..which he hates so he rather be in the back. I bought a 4runner to use it fishing/hiking/camping. It isnt a grocery getter, my dog goes just about everywhere with me. It will get dirty and it will get cleaned. Im not going to try exclude my dog for a truck that is meant to be used.

Maybe it's just me but seems like an awful lot of dust collects in the 4Runner. I have a dust mop thingy but seems like every other day I can write my name on the dash...

We were set on blizzard pearl until we saw this on the lot. We traded a metallic blue 3rd gen prius for this. I'm more than happy!

The dog on the other hand gets carsick so having the window down for him is the only way we can keep him from drooling like a spigot on trips. I love the back window!

It's the OEM Toyota liner.

I wish they had given us cloth mats at the dealer so we'd at least be a little more comfortable, but instead they only had Toyota rubber mats. I'm OK with the back, but the flimsy floor mats for the passengers cover little floor and slide all over the place in the 2nd row. I get overly comfortable with them and then notice dirt and mud on the carpet underneath. Husky or Weathertech liners are up next on my shopping list.

Wet okoles are the only way to go. Great investment for seat covers.

This - I was wondering if my 4Runner is missing a filter somewhere. Maybe the dash plastics have an uncommon ability to hold a static charge?
 
When I hit a trail, I just wipe down my black interior the next day. Just plan on it. Black interior is what it is, Softex or not.

I've had the black interior since the end of November and it comes clean when I roll down the windows and open the sunroof. The dog is black, the girlfriend is blond, life is good.

Sand shows up and is gritty, but that's to be expected on the beach.

In 2006 my father decided on very short notice that they needed to move to a retirement community. They were in their mid-80s with mobility problems, mom's dementia, etc. He gave me their 2006 Avalon with 6400 miles on it; I had a lot of driving to do every week to get them moved, settled and the house cleaned out and sold. Fwiw, he died in 2011 and mom died last September.

The point? Nice road cruiser, but don't ever get an ivory interior. Please note the MIGHT-AS-WELL-BE-WHITE STEERING WHEEL. Oh dear me. Touch it, it's dirty.

Have had the exact same set-up ( down to the zip-ties and tubing) in my old 02 and moved it to my new 17 T4R. Doesn't keep the dog hair from swirling around but it keeps the dirt, sand and slobber contained.
