I spent the weekend in the garage replacing the carpet in my 1986 4Runner I picked up a couple of weeks ago! It was more time consuming than I thought but I am pleased with the results. The breakdown and reassembly was a breeze compared to installing the carpet. I am happy with the overall results and found a $5 Bill in the process while taking out the old carpet.

Looks clean..when I pulled up my carpet I found some mysterious white substance in a baggie :wow:and in the cargo area a serious amount of fish scales...ya everything got sanded and primered
I got the carpet from Rock Auto who uses ACC molded carpet for each vehicle! I picked up the carpet and a new front bumper valance for under $120!

Info purposes: Reconditioned interior of 90 T4r and ended up removing the cargo interior panels; not a labor intensive task but found the clips are fragile and I was not as gentle in removing as I should have. Found local dealer does not carry the clips, fortunately the local NAPA auto parts store has a binder with samples of various clips and either order thru them or their online catalog, if lucky may have the item in stock. Found the same clips were used to secure the carpet pad to the tailgate. Anyhow, for what it is worth??

I've been wanting to do this too but don't know if I can find a whole weekend to do so.
Anyone ever pay to have this done? I wonder what the labor cost would be, might be worth it for me.

If you need to you can always just plop the driver's seat back in and go.

I Detest Hidden Fasteners
I detest hidden fasteners that break each time you work on them, so I am replacing the as I go, with nylon expansion nuts and simple screws.
Example on my door panels here.

I was looking over your carpet replacement and saw where you mentioned your seat were out of a 95 model ? Did the bolt pattern and all match up like the 86 models ? Also your center console I was looking at the back of it and there is no heater outlet where mine has one, it also has the high/low fan switch and temp control arm that slides up and down to regulate the air temp. I'm trying to get my 86 back to looking as close as I can to how it came from the factory. I've already had it painted and I'm hunting for parts that have worn out in mine, mainly and console top, the interior trim that goes around the two sliding glass windows behind the front seats and a rear bumper for it, with or without the step. I would really be grateful to you if you know of someone that has any of these things or maybe point me in the right direction. I have read on line that multiple year front seats will swap out in these 4Runners. Your carpet replacement looks very good. Another thing I noticed is yours doesn't have the inclinometer that mine has. I put a pic of it in. Mine looks like the one on top second from the left, but I'm sure you already know what they look like

He hasn't been on here since 2019, so I wouldn't wait for a reply.
As for your seat question, seats from any 84-89 Runner or 84-88 pickup should bolt right up, they're basically the same vehicle.
The inclinometer was typically part of the SR5 trim package. My 84 has one but my 89 does not. Same for the backseat heater built into the console IIRC.

Thank you for getting back to me on that. I have been reading on line but not sure or not if it's true and that's why I ask here at this forum. I've read that some 90's model front seats would swap out. Is that true or not ? I just know trying find parts in Georgia is like hunting for hens' teeth
