Workin' on your fitness?

I'm trying to get back into working out right now, but I'm not too sure of a routine. I lifted in high school for football, so I'm familiar with all the equipment, but just don't know of a good routine. Can you guy suggest a good site to check out for some guidance. I'm just looking to get back into shape, no real heavy lifting. Plus I'm working out at my office so we have the basic set up (free weights, treadmill, stairmaster, bench, squat machine.

Bodybuilding, Weight Training, Nutrition and Diet Guidelines from Mr. Universe Dave Draper - sample work out section is good stuff.
Do some research on Vince Gironda and his training methods. Very ahead of his time techniques.

Can anyone have a 6-pack? I am 23, 6'2, and weigh 190. I read some places that no matter how much some people work out, they will never get a six pack.

true, false?

Can anyone have a 6 pack? Yes. Everyone has abs. Just most people's abs are covered with a layer of fat. Which brings us to the next statement.

If this particular person, only does abs and, for the lack of a better statement, eats like crap they will never be at a low enough body fat % to expose their abs.

Last time I squat 280 like 4 times. But its rare that I do any leg workouts since I have a pretty toned lower body... I played soccer for 10yrs so I got some sweet calves LOL

Sooo... You don't powerlift. You just bench. lol

You should learn as many exercises as possible and keep those in your head. Don't worry about routines. So many people look for routines and get comfortable with them, then they don't change that routine even when hitting a plateau. Eventually it will become boring and then going to the gym isn't fun. I walk into the gym knowing what body part(s) I'll be focusing on and that's it. The rest is in my head and it depends on what I feel like doing that day. This method also teaches you to listen to your body instead of treating it like a machine.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah I know getting stuck in a routine is never good. Just looking for some good lifts to do together. My old coach had a workout program that was really good and was based on all of our maxes. Wish I had kept some of those sheets now.

Deceptiwave, where did you see the sample workout section? Maybe I'm blind. :nerd:

Edit: Nevermind I found it.

Yeah I don't power lift, just stack more weight every time I work out

I will be turning 53 tomorrow and have been on a work-out routine of some sort all my life. Played sports all through high school, then majored in health and PE in college, and have an Advanced Physical Fitness Instructor Certification from the Cooper Clinic. BUT, you don't have to be any kind of expert to get into a good routine. I try to work out minimum of three days a week, as long as my schedule allows. My job (which I have been doing for 22 years now) requires staying at a certain fitness level - we get tested every six months on situps, pushups, flex, and running 1.5 miles. We have a fully equipped gym in the building so I have no excuses for not working out. I do the treadmill first for around 30-40 minutes, then 30 minutes of moderate weights (upper and lower) just for toning and shaping purposes. No heavy stuff. Whatever work-out routine you do though will be null and void if you don't combine it with proper diet and eating habits.
