Working a DIY ceiling cargo net

I got a bunch of seatbelt-type webbing for free from my job, so I decided to try making my own ceiling cargo net.

I plan on attaching it to the rear seat grab bars in front and the coat hooks in the back, which I've already replaced with D-rings. I've been box stitching each overlap with heavy-duty thread. Final size will be approximately 35" x 30" with cam buckles on the corners to tighten (unless I think of something better than cam buckles).

A few more pics from a bit of progress tonight, including some experimenting on how I will make the corners. I haven't seen corners done this way before (last pic), but I thought it looked cool and makes a good pad to stitch on webbing and the cam buckle.

Almost done! The net is all put together; Just needs webbing and cam buckles on the corners. Pretty happy with how the corners turned out...although, sadly, the nice sewing will be mostly covered by the cam buckle webbing. Oh well!

That's looking good. I have been thinking about something similar that goes across the back of the cargo area like a webbing tailgate.

I like what you’ve done here. I always figured I’d get super annoyed with stuff falling down and/or sagging through the gaps in the webbing of the nets i’ve seen before. The wider strapping you’ve used seems like it might solve that potential issue. Nice work!

Thanks! I think I will mostly being using it when sleeping in the back, so stuff hanging down won't be a big issue. We'll see!

Yeah.
If that's a concern, I would line it with "pet screen" (PVC-coated polyester mesh).
