Mud pit I was beating it through until my alternator belt broke. Crawled out my moon roof to hook the cable up on that one..

We won't get into the story on this one but there was broken front end parts and no 4 wheel drive involved :clap2: The old handyman jack used as a come along has saved my a$$ several times

Wasnt in my 4runner but in my 3rd gen i slid on black ice and tipped over in a ditch taking up the whole width of the road. Leaving about 5 feet of room to pass. Almost turned alot worse when I climbed out my roof and saw a empty dump truck with trailer coming down the road just in front of me, brakes locked up sliding closer and closer to me. He stopped sliding about 10 ft from my truck.

He was nice enough to let all the other trucks coming down the mountain to slow down and about the accident, too see if there was anyone who could help. 25 minutes later my truck was back on its wheels and being loaded onto my bosses trailer.

After the first dump truck passed, soon enough another one was on its way down the mountain, he was able to chain around my frame and in one swift motion pull me back over. No tugging and yarding involved thank god.

That day sucked, never made it to go snow wheeling. And once again I drove away with my truck on a trailer. Uh I hate that feeling,,..

before&after (sorry for the massive pics i dont know why end up that big always)

Wow....

Fixable. I need to find a painter though.

Backing up of an obstacle got tippy. I'm really not liking the auto tranny off road and no locker so I think I'm regearing(maybe) but I'm slapping a Detroit locker on it with in this month. This rig is very limited without a locker. Also need to fix some things that were not done very well by the previous owner and get the tranny fixed up again from the previous owner.

Here's pics of the repair so far.

Talk about a funny / sad thread to run into. That poor runner.... What's funny is how psychotically particular the previous owner was about everything on that vehicle (all fluids changed before scheduled maintenance). Psychotic about every noise and CEL that came up on that 4runner and replaced / fixed everything immediately. I'm sure at roughly 180k things will start breaking on a car, which would not necessarily be the previous owners fault.

I am not a professional mechanic nor would ever claim to be, although I have worked in plenty of service shops and know how to turn a wrench. That vehicle was maintained to the best of my ability and bank account limitations. This is far more work than most shops would ever put in a vehicle.

Nothing was ever "done" to that engine other than the ISR, deckplate, and k&n. These are all standards in the 3rd gen community and a common modification. I don't know how you could try to blame check engine lights and fuel injectors on a previous owner. I've got a feeling it probably didn't like being rolled.....

What amazes me is that after owning that runner for roughly 6 years, and wheeling the hell out of it, I hardly managed to put more than a few scratches on it or have any major mechanical issues with it. I might not be a mechanic but at least I know how to keep a vehicle on all 4 wheels.

With all that said.... Glad you didn't get hurt and the runner is still alive.

Not Toyota but I was one of the 2 trucks it took to yank it out. Thought it was worth sharing. Saturday night. Pa coal county fights back sometimes.

Only got really stuck once. Decided to play in the snow, was only about 12" - 14" deep. I'm plowing through this snow like there's nothing there when all of a sudden the snow gets 3ft deep, must have hit a drift. Couldn't go forward or back because I was on ice underneath the snow. Took 4 trucks daisy chained together to get me out, was in there a total of 4 hours.

The picture doesn't do it justice, by then I had dug out all the snow from around the 4Runner.

Why am I willing to admit this?! I got my 4Runner stuck in the sand at Gordons Well over Thanksgiving weekend. It was 90% my fault when I got scared and let off the gas. I blame the other 10% on the fact that I should of never thought the truck would make it up that soft sand.
Lesson learned: WHEN IN DOUBT, GAS IT!
Maybe by admitting my amateur driving skills and pansy reaction to this, I will react better under pressure next time.
Makes for great pictures. I am still embarrassed but I am still proud that I tried. Better than keeping my beloved 4Runner on the pavement. How boring is that?! haha.

We were right off sand highway so easy for help to get to us. Hooked 4R up and pulled it right out no problem. It could not get out on it's own, sand to the frame. I think if I had the Trail, it MIGHT of gotten out on it's own with the diff lock.

It was still fun. Embarrassing but fun. I am sure others have done more stupid moves in their truck.

Here in ENC, there's not a lot of people that go wheeling, that I've found.

I'm part of a club, the "Carolina Trail Stalkers", the only problem, it's a mostly Heep club.

So, one night in January, a buddy of mine calls me up and says he's got a friend who's stuck on some power lines.

He said he's tried to get him out, but couldn't get him.

So, I call my other buddy who has a 4Runner and we make the hour drive to go save the Heeps.

Finally find them, and we're trying to figure out how we're going to get this guy. Look down the path, and it's about 1130 at this time, and see the Heep across the trail.

So, go get this Heep, snatch him out, and he's on his marry way back to civilization, with us in tow.

What we didn't realize, is that there's another Heep, about 1/4 mile away from the road. This dude is just chilling, looking like he can get out any time he wants to.

Well, he's the one that we needed to get out. So, me and my buddy go down the trail, and are sitting there trying to figure out how we're gonna get this guy without getting ourselves stuck.

I go to do a 3 point turn, my front end goes up, comes back down, and I'm ****ed. I have NO idea what I got hung up on, but I wasn't moving.

My buddy tries to pull me out from the front, back, the side, I wasn't moving at all.

So, says "let me try one more time from the front."

Well, he buried is 4Runner, sitting on 33s, about 36" deep in mud.

So we try digging him out, using my hilift to pull him out, all to no avail.

Well, it's about 3am, 33* at this point, I said **** it, I'm taking a nap. Turned the truck on, turned the heat on as high and as hot as I could to thaw my feet, and fell asleep for a couple hours.

Wake up at 6, start it all over again. By 830, the game wardens there. The three of us that we're stuck got tickets. (Ended up doing some community service to get out of that one.)

Dude shows up with a "recovery" truck, Dodge 2500, lift, tires, chains, 12k winch, kids, wife, the whole nine. (One of his kids is about 4 months old.) we rig chains to my buddy's Runner, snatch the winch line, and, the winch dies. Damn Smittybuilts.

Back to square one.

Another Heep in the club shows up, manages to get my buddy out, my buddy goes home, but refuses to pull me out, unless he can snatch the line. I try to explain to him that if he comes forward about 50', I could strap him to a tree, and if be out in less than a minute.

Won't do it.

Another guy in a Heep shows up, from the club, and try's to hook up to me from my hitch and pull me out. I dragged his Heep forward. He takes a strap, straps to a tree, hooks up again, and breaks his strap.

I tell them the only way I'm coming out is forward. They don't listen, and instead try pulling me from behind again.

At this point, the guy is getting frustrated, and says **** it, and tried to drive around me.

He gets stuck in the mud.

I pull a strap out, his snatch block, run it to the nearest tree, and he inches himself forward.

He's about 2' in front of my runner when he stops, looks at me, and realizes I was right the whole time.

We hook a chain up from his Heep to my Runner, and he starts winching. I'm almost out of the hole, and his damn selector lever on his winch snaps. Another Shittybuilt. Now we're both ****ed.

At this point, about 10 other people with Heeps showed up. They again Wouldn't listen to me, and tried to pull me from behind. (2) 10k winches on my hitch, and I broke two straps and pulled them forward.

Finally they talk the first douche nugget who was there into pulling me forward, and he finally listens.

Daisy chain three people with winches together, and managed to get the last guy out.

Total time me, the guy who was stuck, and a buddy of mine who didn't leave us for a second, 36 hours.

I'll see if I can find the pics.

Edit***

Not the best pic, but here ya go. I was on 35s, and they were burried. I wasn't going anywhere.

Wheeling in Hollister Hills.

I was babysitting my mom's friend's kid and decided to take a little day trip down south to Hollister area to have an adventure. We had been crawling around the trails for some time and then we got to open area with some rocks and steep slopes. It was a fun park, more or less. There was a certain hill I decided to go up, not knowing how steep the decline was on the other side. Without a locking diff (or any recovery gear for that matter) I blasted up. I have video and my wheels are skipping all over all the loose rocks and gravel, and when I got to the top, I skidded to a stop, not really knowing why. I hit the gas and heard to wheels trying to move, but nothing. The boy I was babysitting was at the top of this hill filming btw. I got out to see that my chassis was resting on the top, all four of my tires barely touching the surrounding gravel. After about two hours of piling rocks, and unfortunately my Old Beach Brewing Company t-shirt, I grabbed enough traction and got off. Out of water, and out of tshirts (both of ours got shredded under my BFGs), we hightailed it out and got to a gas station where we both downed a gatorade. Best part of the day: His mom paid for all my gas, and gave me an extra hundo for the trouble.
