would a 92 taco work for a whip mod?

wanting to do the taco whip because was wheeling and forgot to pull the antenna in and bent it so it doesnt go back in and i hat it sticks up like 3 in... found a 92 being parted out. cant find anywhere where it says what years work.

a true tacoma did not start till 95.5 and they are only like $30 brand new from the dealer so thats where i would get one. dont buy one used unless its like $10 and then why wouldnt they just give it too you? idk

in answer to your question, no the 92 will not work. different body style and fender line/mold

The antenna on my '98 Taco screws into the base.

They screw in, yes. When you go to the dealer to get the parts it will be in separate part numbers- one has the mast, the other has the "assembly" I think it was called which includes the base, and the "wiring" if you will, to the back of the stereo.

When I did mine it was nearly $100 for everything at all of the local dealers. The guys doing this for $50 or less... I am envious.

do you know if you have to use the mast that is provided or can you use any aftermarket screw in antenna? i've read in other posts on the forum that after installation the antenna appears "bent" in because the taco assembly doesn't fit quite right. any truth to any of this?

no not at all. it looks perfectly fine, and factory. i think it looks better than the telescoping antenna personally
