Would getting a retune negate the need for the 7th injector?

As the title says.. Im liking the price of these low mile engines from wrecked yotas. Just had a thought if I ended up getting a SC'd motor.

BTW, trans prices are really good too. All that looks so much better than the 3k I paid for a low miles LLY when my Duramax blew up a couple years ago.

You can’t ‘tune’ the 3rd Gen ECU.

At least, nobody that I know of has been able to crack it or make it work.

You can get a stand alone ECU that can be tuned, but that’s it.

Diesels are expensive, but performance Toyotas can get up there in price too. Your options are upgrading the current fuel system how it is, larger injectors, high flow fuel pump, etc along with some kind of controller for fuel and timing, be it a standalone ECU or piggyback like an AEM FIC or URD setup.

Then you've got the 7th injector which makes the most sense for most applications because it does work well, and it is self contained and easy.

Then you can go with something like water/meth or some other auxiliary fuel injection. This has its benefits and typically is affordable but comes with its own set of drawbacks as well.

Basically Toyota did not make it easy on us and the aftermarket companies that did figure it out have to make their money back, so it ends up being spendy.

Things get really into the custom world. Ive looked at MegaSquirt off n on. They now do it for fuel economy. Im sure multi tunes as well. Always a route to take if I research it enough.

I just added a 1st gen TRD supercharger with 2.2 pulley. I went with a devils own methanol injection kit and a Kenne Bell boost a pump. It runs good at about 9lbs of boost with no ping. While i realize a stand alone tuner will get more out of the combo, I also realize it’s not gonna be a vehicle that I’m chasing 1/4 mile times with. It’s definitely a night and day difference and makes the truck more enjoyable to drive. I may go with a 2.1 pulley but I’m afraid it may lead to pinging problems so I may just stay with this combo. I do however have the trans go shift kit ready to go in. If you do supercharge you will see the trans definitely needs it.
