I saw an FJ with these wheels on it the other day, and I really liked the way it looked. I looked up the info on thier website, and here are the specs listed for the 4Runner:

Part #779412
Size: 17X9
Bolt Pattern: 6-5.5
Back Space: 4.53

BTW, they also come in black/polished.

Does anyone have the specs on the stock 4Runner wheels?

I believe the Sport Edition wheels are 17 x 8, correct?

How about Offset?

Backspacing?

4Runner 17's are 17X7 with a 30MM offset.. FJ runs 17X7.5 with 15MM offset, the17X 9" wheels you are looking at have -12mm offset, roughly 1/2 inch negative offset, giving the wheels that dish look and adding width to the ride, hopefully allowing for clearance of your suspension components.

Bolt pattern is 6X139.

Okay, so I still don't know if the wheels will fit my 4th gen.

Does anyone know how to figure it out? If I know the width, offset, and backspacing of the factory wheels and the aftermarket wheel, how can I tell if the aftermarket wheels will have the same clearance of the suspension components? The stock wheels have very little clearance as is it, so I'm concerned that the new wheels may cause the tires to rub on the inside.

It will fit, however it depends on the tire you are going for also. It might rub the front bumper on full lock turns. I know that a 20x9 +0 works fine on the 4 runner with a 295 45 20 tire on it. But -12 might be too much depending on tire size. keep in mind that the wheel you are looking at with the size and offset you chose will EXTEND an extra 61mm over stock.

How did you determine the extra 61mm? I don't see how that possibly adds up.

Easy...

the wheel is 1.5" wider then a stock wheel and is a -12 offset.

Wheels offsets work like this:

Say you had a wheel offset of 17x7.5 +30

if you buy a 17x9 +30 for example, its not the same offset as about OEM wheel. The wheel will stick out another 19mm in wards and 19mm outwards to make up for the extra width. So in thoery, if you buy a -12 offset and 9" wide what do you get? it comes out a additional 61mm but inner clearance has a extra 23mm more then stock.

So in order for your wheel to stay the same flushness as stock on a 9" wide wheel, you would need a +49 offset. (would not clear the inner side though)

This is how the math works:

17x7.5 +30
17x9 -12

1.5" wider then stock = 38.1mm divide by 2 = 19.05.. (call it 19 even) because the width is split into each side.

Then take +30 into a -12 which is a 42mm lower offset then stock difference.

Now take that 42mm + 19mm = 61mm more outwards.

Ideally IMO, i think +0~+12 works best.

OMG if you have a black, Shadow Mica, or Galactic Grey 4Runner, these would be STUNNING!! Just think, if you had the painted section, repainted to match your exterior color.......

Okay, that makes sense. But I think 61mm is far too much. I've seen pics of guys with stock wheels using 1.5" wheel spacers, and I wouldn't want my new wheels to "stick out" any more than that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but these wheels would make it look similar to 2.5" wheel spacers on the stock wheels.

And what about the backspacing? Do you know if the backspacing is the same on both wheels? If not, then wouldn't that throw off your calculations?

.

BTW, are those the correct numbers for the stock 4th gen wheels? I thought they were 8" wide, but someone else said they were 7" wide. Now you say they are 7.5" wide!

Yes it would be like slapping on 2.5" spacers on your 4Runner.

Backspacing has nothing to do with wheel offsets or calculations, the offsets are calculated from the wheel's center line, so it doesnt matter if the wheel is a high pad design or low pad etc etc.. Either way you look at it with that offset the suspension will have plenty of clearance due to the negative offset. Brake caliper clearance wise should be fine as well, since the wheels concave ouwards and giving more clearance as the spokes sweep outwards. If these fit on a FJ and clears their brakes they should clear the 4Runner as well since the brake setup is the same.

They are 17x7.5J for all 17" models

The 18" models is 18x7.5

The 16" models are 16x7

The FJ wheels 17x7.5 +15 (Aluminum 6 spoke version)

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but......
I am also looking at switching my wheels and this offset stuff confuses the hell out of me.
I would like a wheel that sticks out about an additional half inch than the stock wheels. So, would I want a wheel with an additional 13mm? An offset of +43?
I'd rather not do spacers.

I think it works like this:

If the stock wheels have +30mm offset and you want them to stick out a half inch more, then you'd have to find a rim with an offset of approximately +18mm.

It seems that there are a lot of aftermarket wheels with a 0 offset, which should bring the wheels out a little more than an inch, if the rim width is the same as stock.

OK, so you decrease the amount of offset to have them stick out a little farther?
Like the FJ wheels mentioned at the bottom of p. 1 with an offset of +15. They would actually stick out farther?

YES, the lower the offset # the farther it comes out. The FJ 17" wheels would fit perfectly. the +15 offset would bring it out a additional 15mm outwards.
