Would these wheels fit a 4th Gen?

PS, did anyone relaized that oem toyota factory 18" limited wheel is dirt cheap to buy brand new? I price some out and it was at $131 a wheel on www.mrtoyotaparts.com

Yeah, that's weird. The 18" Limited wheels are much less expensive than the 17" factory wheels.

Thanks for the info guys.
Yeah, that price for the lmtd wheels is pretty reasonable.
Don't know if I want to go to an 18" wheel though.
Just started looking at my options. May go with the Tundra/Sequoia wheels or the 4runner SE wheels and have the spokes on either black powder coated.
Can't decide what I want to do.

I've heard that the Tundra/Sequoia wheels have a better offset and will bring the wheels out a bit more than the factory 4Runner wheels. The same thing is true of the FJ Cruiser wheels. Someone posted pics of a 4th gen 4Runner with FJ wheels, and you can definitely notice the wider stance.

Hello all... new to JOINING the forum...been snooping for a good month. Trying to solve the infamous steering shake at highway speeds... BUT, also looking for wheel/tire ideas too! I realllly want to put 18's on my '07 SE (black or graphite colored since I have the dark grey)...but I'm curious to know if something like 18x9's will fit a stock height T4R? I have the stock 17's, and they look okay... in the end, I might just stick with those and just go with a slightly larger/more agressive looking tire... ya know, give it some spice. Anyone have any ideas if we can go 18x9 or even 18x8.5 on stock height?

The stock limited wheels for '06 & '07 are 18x8.5 I believe.
So yes, they will fit no problem, just need to watch your tire size.

?

Do you guys think these wheels would work?

18x9 +18mm offset 5 3/4 Backspace

Would they rub my suspension? Would spacers help?

I'm thinking about going with 275-60-18 Tires

it should clear but it will be close, as 9" wide wheel with a +18 means its 7mm closer inwards then stock, now if the tire doesnt buldge too far over then you shoould be fine. Generally on 9" wheels i shoot for +12 or less.

I don't know about that.... the stock wheels/tires on a 4th gen have very little space to clear the suspension. I can't even get my finger between the tire and the suspension in the front.

Thats what i mean by close.... it will fit but will be close, as long as the tire doesnt bulge out too far then youll be fine.

Hence why i said +12 or lower offset ideally on a 9" wheel. ;)

But the 9" wheel is obviously wider, which will make it closer on the inside. If the stock 4Runner wheel was 9" and had the same offset, it wouldn't fit without rubbing the suspension.

its only 7mm more inwards then stock...not a huge difference. And his wheels are of a lower offset in which compensates the wider wheel he has in mind. Obviously a 9" wide wheel with a +30 wouldnt fit, but he was asking about a +18. It will fit but will be a tight fit so as long as tires dont bulge excessively. 275 on a 9 shouldnt bulge much at all with a 60 series tire.

A 9 inch wheel is 1.5 inches wider (or approx 38mm) than the stock wheel. That would make it about 19mm wider on the inside and outside, not 7mm. It seems to me that an offset of 18 wouldn't be nearly enough to clear the suspension, given the extra width of the wheel.

Do you know how offsets work? I posted it earlier in this thread, maybe you need to re-read it.

stock 17x7.5 +30
wheel size of a 18x9 +18

All offsets start at the center line of the wheel, its not going to be 1.5" wider on the inner or outer, its split even. In contrast to the stock wheel of 17x7.5 +30 a 18x9 +18 it will be:

Inner Clearance: 7mm LESS (the inside of the wheel to the strut housing)

Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 31mm (position of the outside edge of the wheel)

Do you kinda understand how it works?

In order for him to have a 18x9 with the SAME inner clearance as stock the offsets will have to be 18x9 +11 that way all 1.5" of its nominal width will be transferred to the outside.

So if I've got 7mm less inner clearance, we're talking about .25 inch closer to suspension. I've got that much room when I stick my hand back there.

If I've got 31mm outer extension, we're talking about 1.25 inches further out.

If these numbers are correct, this wheel would be exactly what I am looking for. But, I would hate to order these wheels and they rub my suspension!

Are you certain these numbers are correct?

No kidding. That's why I said that a 9 inch wheel will be about 38MM wider than a stock wheel. Like I said, half of that (19mm) would be on the inside and the other half on the outside.

to the stock wheel of 17x7.5 +30 a 18x9 +18 it will be:

Inner Clearance: 7mm LESS (the inside of the wheel to the strut housing)

Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 31mm (position of the outside edge of the wheel)

And of course my original point still stands. There's barely 7mm of clearnace with the stock wheels/tires as it is now. So I don't believe the wheels specified would work, due to suspension clearance issues.

Something else to think about...

Think vertically. The part of the suspension that is closest to the tire is currently about 1 inch vertically from the outside of the rim. The fattest part of the tire is about 2.75 inches from the inside of the rim.

The new rim should be .5 inch closer vertically to the suspension.

If the old and new tires were the same height, the fattest part of the tire should be 1.5 inches vertically away from the susupension.

And the new tires should not bulge as much as the old, right? I have stock tires on the stock 17" limited wheels.

So, in theory we are moving the rim vertically more toward the suspension and the fattest part of the tire away from the suspension.

The suspension should be closer to the new rim than the old, so it should hover at a narrower place in the tire.

Does this sound reasonable?

It looks like less than an inch to me. Have you actually measured it?
