Would these wheels fit a 4th Gen?

No kidding. That's why I said that a 9 inch wheel will be about 38MM wider than a stock wheel. Like I said, half of that (19mm) would be on the inside and the other half on the outside. [/B]

correct but you arent getting the whole picture, there is much more then 7mm behind there, this setup will work fine, yes it will be closer by 7mm then stock but not enough to pose a threat of rubbing, especially with skinny 275's on it. 275 60 18 is actually a bit on the skinny size for a 9" wheel

And of course my original point still stands. There's barely 7mm of clearnace with the stock wheels/tires as it is now. So I don't believe the wheels specified would work, due to suspension clearance issues. [/B]

There is a little more then 7mm, with my current 17x7.5 +30 with 265 65 17 has a hair more then 16mm behind it at the fattest bulging part of the tire. The rim is not anywhere NEAR it even if were big enough to stand next to the uprights. Keep in mind that a 275 on a 9 will not buldge anywhere near as much as the factory tires with the 7.5's do, hence why 7mm inwards should not pose a problem. Only way id see it as a problem is if he decided to go with something wider then a 275.

I have stock size tires (265/65/17), but they are Discoverer ATRs, which are actually one inch wider as measured at the shoulders of the tread. Maybe my wider tires bulge a bit more than the stock tires, even though they are supposed to be the same size as the stock tires. I'm lucky if I have 1/4" clearance from the inside of my tire!

Yes that is true with alot of tire makers, some run wider then others. Even in the sport compact sizes, i can buy a 275 35ZR 18 for my Z, and some 275s look like 295's in size.

I do notice some tires do run wider/ narrower then others. But in stock form, i got decent space behind my tire.

I never insisted his wheels wouldn't fit. I was simply saying that using YOUR numbers, those wheels wouldn't fit on my 4Runner because I don't have nearly the same around of clearance (inner) between my aftermarket tires and the suspension components. I'm lucky if I have 7mm of clearance with my OEM rims and the Discoverer ATR tires!

BTW, it looks like he has at least, if not more clearance with his new wheels than with OEM wheels. Maybe his backspacing has something to do with it. We never really got into a backspacing discussion.

BTW, the wheels look great. I like the wider stance. Now you just need to get a mild leveling lift to make it look fantastic.

baileed - That really looks nice. I'm thinking of doing something very similar. Those wheels look sharp, just wish the silver lip was continuous instead of broken up like that. Still looks good though.

Backspacing works direct with wheel offsets and width, a wheel with 9" width and +18 offset will not vary in backspacing between models, it will be the same with every wheel thats the same width, in his case about 5.77" backspacing. So no, backspacing will not be your answer on why it fits.

It's not an assumption. Look closely, and you'll see that you and I were the only people that posted in this thread since baileed joined in the discussion. I'm not assuming you were talking about me, I know you were.

Think i can assume that the same specs + backspacing will work on a 17" rim? 17x9 + 18 offset 5.71" backspace, and with 265-70-17 tires?

I'd like to put 265-70-17's on it.

wheels and tires

So I am a proud and new owner of a 4th gen 4runner and have some questions. I have just a stock t4r and I am wanting to put some bigger wheels and tires on it. I have been looking around and I want to get some Black Flake Fuel Vapor 18x9 -12 with some Nitto Terra Grappler G2 265/60R18XL. I just don't know if leveling it will be big enough. Could anyone help me out THANK YOU!
