Would you buy again?

Wow going through seems about 50/50. Not being an owner of this generation kind of happy I didn't buy one and went with the lc. Exactly why I didn't seems to produce no passion or love for this generation unlike the past models.

Would I buy again or actually be keeping my current one had my needs not changed, but I need more tow capacity to dry camp my trailer since I'm no longer living in it between deployments and towing it a mere 9 miles from storage. I have enjoyed my 4R so far but looking forward to having a full size truck later this year. I would have kept it except for the towing. Great vehicle. If I get to do it over again though, I'll be looking at a 3rd gen to build into a dedicated adventure/wheeling rig (or depending how long it is to that point it could be a 5th gen lol).

I'm happy with my 4Runner, and it if it got totaled out tomorrow, I'd buy it again.

My complaints: I don't need more power, but give me an extra gear or 3. Give me options for options. (ie a limited package in trail form with no sunroof)

Nope -- I've owned three - '03, '11 and my current '15.

Now,...I could see myself easily driving a Cement colored '17 TRD Pro at some point in the future.

Having only owned my TEP for a month it's too early to give a definitive opinion.

The only SUV I owned previously was a 2002 Eddie Bauer Explorer (V-8, 4x4).

The Explorer had better cargo storage options, came with roof rack crossbars, door entry keypad, automatic dual zone climate control and a better sound system. The TEP lacks or lags these amenities / niceties.

Even with the aforementioned poor OEM tires, the TEP clearly outshines the Explorer in both on and off-road capablilty, suspension etc.

Which would I prefer? The TEP, no doubt. I want a vehicle in which I can have confidence under a variety of conditions...both man-made and those slung at us by Mother Nature.

If I needed to go back out and buy a new vehicle tomorrow I'd buy another TEP.

Heavy loads? My current 4Runner ten years old tows more than the new ones by 2000 lbs. and yes is sluggish. Drive an old one with the v8. You will know what I mean.

And that's the difference between a V6 and a V8. As I said, a V6 shouldn't even be on your list of choices if you're into towing upwards of 7,000 pounds. In addition, the 2007 V8 weighs going on 300 pounds less than the current models.

love my 15 trail. only complaint at this point is I really really wish that Toyota offered a V8 in it. I would have paid good $$ to have the option.

Would buy again, but not fancy Limited. Got mine with 10000 miles on it, good deal but had XREAS, power steps, pizza cutter wheels/tires. Took all that out, so a trail would have been better in retrospect. I do like the AWD though. Bottom line I love it, and it goes almost everywhere my Rubicon friends can go on a much more reliable platform.

the vehicle itself is OK, the sheet metal is thin and 5 speed transmissions are a bit dated.

overall, the 4runner is pretty much the only choice in its class, which is why I bought it.

Yes and done. Previously owned a 2007 4Runner SR5.

Foolishly traded it on a Range Rover. Realized I like spending more time on the road than at the mechanic. Cha-ching $$$

Now the proud owner of a 2014 Limited and absolutely love it.

My guess would be additional airbags and safety features. Probably government mandated.

In terms of dimensions pretty much everything is physically larger (even a longer steel fuel tank skid plate is going to add weight)...plus all the extra airbags, and extras (like a third row, locking differential, etc.). Even the weight of little things like extra power sockets, usb ports, LCD nav screens, add up.

My guess is that if you scaled the 5th gen down, and removed items to make them comparable in terms of features it would weigh less than previous generations.

the 4Rnnr isnt all things to all people...sure. could it use more power or a V8, sure it could. Could the transmission be a 6 7 8 speed...yeah.

I bought it because i needed a REAL 4WD, not some crossover, i needed something with a truck chassis, not some crossover, i needed something that was truly tough, not some crossover, I needed something that was truly dependable, not-some-crossover, and i needed something that i would feel good walking out to when i leave to drive somewhere...not some dayum - you know the rest

my initial target was a GX470-460, but since im a jeans and tshirt kind of guy, what do i need all that leather and electronic thing-a-muh-gigs for, ya dig?

if i want power, ill get on one of my motorcycles
if i want to carry something odd, ill get in my pick up truck

it fits my needs perfectly...and per the question posted, i'd buy another one if i could.
