Would you buy?

It's priced about right but doesn't seem to be a particularly 'good deal.' Coming from a 2014, I suspect you'll want to find a nice later model 3rd gen or you may regret the downgrade. Maybe I'm wrong :) I'd try to find a 2001-2002 with around 200k or less. Should be doable for about 6k. GOod luck with whatever you decide!

Just my opinion but I'd stay away from 2001-2002. The brake master cylinder is super expensive to replace when it goes, and the transmissions seem to have more problems than earlier 3rd gens.

Also the evap system is under the vehicle vs the engine bay

I know what you mean about them being priced out of the range. Glad you found the Lexus at least. I spent a lot on my 4Runner but wouldn't change it. I've had a few people ask me about what I would let it go for and I try not to give a price cause super scared someone will take me up on it.

In 2010 I bought my 97 Manual 3rd Gen with 185K miles for 6500. Lifted it, customer e-locker and more. Dad sold it in 2014 for 3500......Sometimes if your patient you will find a GREAT deal.

Just take your time finding one. They are out there but you have to look for them. It took me 9 months to find mine, I saw some that were garbage and some that were nice. I finally found mine in the Seattle area. I got it for 10K for a 2002 and it only had 109 on the odometer. So keep on looking and never give up!!

You could always buy off of Ebay. Thats what I did a few years back. I bought a '99 from a dealer in Louisiana in my price range and got it shipped to N.C. and the dealer ships all the time and they even picked up half the shipping cost (shipping was $350 on my end). It was a risk, but the photos were very high quality and the CarFax and Autochek was clean (even though I don't trust CarFax). 3 years later, I'm glad I did it.
