Would you install used ball joints?

Can you physically go look at them and check them out? While I'm generally in agreeance with the opinion that you should only use NEW suspension parts, my inner cheap skate has had to use JY parts in years past just to keep a POS car going for a few months before I could afford to buy new parts or to keep the old auto-x/track car going on the cheap.

Maybe the slightly used parts are in perfect condition, if you can grab the parts and thoroughly check them over and they seem ok, then offer maybe 25% of the value of a new part.

Don't do it with parts that keep your car attached to the wheels when they are known to be a weak point.

He's a cool parts guy and can probably get you a good price with shipping to Canada.

With Exchange rate, shipping, taxes and sometimes brokerage fees (NEVER use UPS to ship directly to Canada, they're the worst for Brokerage fees)... it is usually not worthwhile for us Canadians to order from our southern neighbours unless we happen to live close to the border and can have the stuff shipped to a UPS store that offers a receiving service like the one in Ogdensburg NY does.

The deal might seem good to you guys, but it would probably come out cheaper for the OP to order his stuff from Toyotapartsdirect.ca at $171 CAD each.

OP is in Canada, so while camelback would be cheapest, they will not ship to Canada.

OP, don't look at Camelback as it will only depress you. Get them from toyotapartsdirect.ca as SpidermanGeek has mentioned earlier. They are the cheapest I have found in Canada but they are slow about getting things to you. Plan well in advance.

Maybe to Yukon, but I think that's on Canada post. I get stuff from them within a few days in Ontario. I just ordered some stuff on Thursday of last week and the tracker says it's in town already. I expect I'll see it tomorrow. that's over a long weekend too!

I'd wear used underwear before using used LBJ's. And being I'm bit of a germaphobe...

New parts are used the minute you put them on your car. If the savings is substantial and they check out, sure, use them. I also have worn used shoes I got at a garage sale. Underwear... no, not a chance.

Guy is parting out a 1999 runner. His LBJ have 10K miles ( claimed ) of on road driving, no lift. He did post a picture of his truck and it looks to be sitting stock. I can get the parts for $300 cheaper if I buy them from him ( nice ) but am a little nervous about installing a used part that is so crucial. I spoke with him and explained my concerns and he said he is very aware of the LBJ issue on the 3rd gens and assured me he would not lie about use or mileage. They are OEM as well.

True, true. They were 3 or 4 days getting the order out the door, and canada post IS slow. Only good things to say about the service though. Best option for Canadians as far as I know.

I would use them with proof of purchase. Without proof of purchase I would use them for trail spares.

And I have worn used bike shorts a number of times - which is sort of like used underwear.

Ball-joint/suspension design on third-gen is bad and it is load-bearing. Even OEM fail without warning, so better buy brand-new OEM ball-joint.
