Wrangler DuraTrac Question

Forgive me if this topic has already been covered, but I did a lot of searching on the site and couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

I'm about to get new tires and I really want DuraTracs, but the only option I can find for my 06 are blackwalls in 265/65-17s. I want whitewalls but that means I'd have go against OEMs and get a different size.

What size can I get that will: 1.) still fit my truck 2.) have white lettering, and 3.) not require a lift?

From Tirerack.com, the only sizes for R17 with white lettering are:

LT245/75R17
LT265/70R17
LT285/70R17

Index that against the Suspension FAQ info on tire sizes and trimming required, and you'll see you can probably fit the 245/75 or 265/70 with minor trimming (mud flap removal and trim front fenders), but the 285/70 will be too large.

I'm just hesitant to order a bigger tire from tirerack.com and have a mechanic refuse to put them on because they're not the factory tire. Foresee any issues with that?

Not really an ease of installation thing, although both say they are about the same diameter (31.5-ish inches) and the 245 is a bit narrower so it should be easier to fit without rubbing anywhere. That being said, 245 is a pretty narrow tire for this vehicle. I know more than a few people run 255/70 but I haven't heard of (m)any running 245.

I haven't had any trouble getting a tire shop to install tires different from stock. When I had my Duratracs installed they just told me they rubbed and I would need to take care of that soon. You could always call your shop and make sure they won't refuse the work...

What's steering (pun intended) your decision towards the Duratracs?

I just had 265/70 DuraTracs put on the rear yesterday and love them. No clearance issues at all with my 2003 SR5 and Discount Tire was the shop I used this go-round. I've had these tires on other vehicles in the past and always been happy with them - a great choice.

The 265/70/17 will fit with no lift. I had them on mine for a month before I put my fromt daystar level on. They didn't rub at all anywhere, full lock both sides.

Thanks for all the help with this guys. I think I found the set I want, but I'll admit I'm a little out of my league with all the numbers/letters:

Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac LT265/70R17 112/109Q C

This tire will fit on my stock 06 Sport, correct?

Regarding the tires- they are very good aggressive ATs, in my opinion. At slow speed, they do not clear mud as well as a true MT but still a great tire, eve though the sidewalls are a bit thin. I don't wheel my 4R anymore so bought them mainly for the snow performance. Goodyears don't balance as well in the bigger sizes but do okay in the smaller sizes like 31" and 32". If you drive in snow and rain, you will like them.
