Wrapping up budget lift, which rear shocks?

So I've finally pieced together my budget lift, just gotta get some rear shocks ordered. I will be using 890's in the rear, and I was thinking of using OEM LC shocks mainly for their price. Toyota has 2 part numbers for the rear of the LC, 48531-69416 to 01/95, and 48531-69485 from 01/95. Anyone know the difference? I was under the impression that any shock from 1991-1998 LC would work. Is one better suited for our application than the other? FWIW, the 69485's are about $10/ea cheaper.

On a side note, are there any other shocks I should be looking at? Maybe the LC's are a little long for the 890's? I'm trying to stay in the $50-75 range for now, I will probably upgrade to Billie's in a year or so. Just gotta get something decent under there for now.

Yes I've done extensive research and read through the Lift FAQ, but shocks aren't really covered very well. Any comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated!

While it will no doubt be frowned upon by the purists (I'm too old to worry about having the cool brands), I've been running Monroe Gas Magnums for the LC for about a year with no issues at all (using LC 7 7/8 wraps). Nice ride, good control, plenty of flex, and cheap - like $44 each at O'Reilly.

Ya I checked those out as well, but it looked like they were for increased load. Considering the LC is already heavier, I figured they'd be on the stiff side for sure, and I can get OEM LC shocks for $25-$35/ea. Good option though, thanks for the input!

Rough Country rear shocks...was going to get these but ended up with OMEs...good for what you need (up to 3.5" of lift).

Wonder if these would be comparable to Skyjackers, there's a set on Ebay for about 85 bucks shipped right now. Decisions...

Not sure, but I've heard bad things about skyjacker...especially from Jeep guys. Heard good and bad from people about the Rough Countrys...not sure how much shipping is on those, shouldn't be too bad.

The Rough Country's from Wheeler's are a good shock, they ride very well with the 890's. However, don't use the nuts that come with them....get some locking nuts for the top stud. Otherwise they'll unscrew themselves and the top of the shock will come loose from the mount.

Rough Country doesn't even list a p/n for the 3rd Gen's, wonder which ones Wheeler's is selling?

The ones they are selling (in the link I gave you) are for 96-02 4Runners. If you go to their home page, click Toyota, then 96-02 4Runner, you'll bentually land on the page I gave you.

I'm running a set of Gabriel shocks on the rear of my 3rd gen, and they aren't stiff at all. Matter of fact, they ride really well IMO, paired with my LC 8-wraps. I walked into Auto Zone & told them I wanted a pair of rear shocks for a 1996 Landcruiser. Done and done...and OTD cost was about $65-$68. And if I had/have a problem I can go back to my local Auto Zone to handle it & don't have to worry about trying to deal with E Bay, etc.
