Well I just called and he said if you don't care about the lights, you can just wire it up like a toggle switch.

That makes things simple for you then. You'll pretty much just follow the instructions already listed here. If you get the same switches as I did, you'll hook up the wires to pin 2 and 3. Here's a diagram:

Awesome, thanks for the info. I'm going to see if they can make me one that says FRONT DIFF DISCO or FRONT DIFF DISCONNECT so as not to confuse the crap out of other people who might drive the truck.

For the auto trans owners out there, the same wire (white/black stripe) through a SPST switch does disable the ADD just as it should! Funny thing I found though, and maybe this is just for the automatic: turning off (disconnecting) the ADD switch also disables the starter...? Guess I ended up with a secret engine immobilizer too. Anyone else notice this phenomenon doing this mod?

I hadn't noticed any starter disable on my 2001 4Runner Auto
BTW the correct wire for the 2Lo mod on my rig was a blue with a black tracer.

Thanks for the picture of your wiring, Glen. What I notice from the pictures on this thread, and from doing my own wiring, is that dtc81 had only one large connector above the glovebox; Mine has the one white connector plus the smaller black connector above [maybe for automatics?] and your picture shows an additional connector on top where that blue wire comes from. I'm thinking those might be changes between years, since mine is a '97.

I've had a chance now to check 4wd operation on a lift and practical tests in a snowy parking lot.
Here's the results; it seems right to me:
2Hi, ADD Switch On - Front wheels spin independently, RWD only
4Hi, ADD Switch Off - Front wheels spin independently, RWD only
4Hi, ADD Switch On - All wheels spin together, front driveshaft engaged
4Lo, ADD Switch Off - Front wheels independent, no steering difficulty or wheel hop
4Lo, ADD Switch On - Both driveshafts engaged, harder to steer, bucks on tight turns
Hopefully this helps anyone else deciding whether or not this will work for them.
