Hey there guys, been looking on here for months. Been wanting a 3rd gen for awhile but I have a family and I think a 4th gen will be a lot better. Finally got approved for my loan so I'm really trying now. Anyways, I'm from the Bay Area and I'm really interested in this 04 sport edition with only 61 k miles, but he wants 15k, my price range was more 11-13, well that's what I prefer, but he won't budge even a bit on the 15k. Just want to know if this is a good deal or not. Hate to lose out on something good. Here's the posting 2004 Toyota 4Runner / 61k miles

I absolutely would pay 13k. Even told him 14k just to see what he would say and he laughed it off and said he was offered more. Which was 14.5 according to him. I kbb the car and it came out to 14.2 but he doesn't car.

Based on what Im finding in MY neck of the woods.....it'd be cheaper for me to fly out there and drive that back than find something remotely comparable around here....I say that's a good deal

Wow, that's saying a lot. Thanks for the input. I personally feel like it's a good deal as well, everything around here that's an 03-04 typically has +95k. They're asking for 13k but a few are asking for 15k
My perspective, as a prospective buyer rather than a current owner is that there is a wide diversity of price in the used market - easily +- 10 or 20% for similar trucks. Some folks love their Runners and will only sell them at a a premium over KBB. If you fall in love with such a specific truck and have to have it then more power to you, but I just ignore these ads.
In large markets like the SF Bay Area or LA there are a LOT of 4th gen 4Runners that turn up, and if you're shopping in such a market you can afford to wait for the right deal. In the 2-3 months I've been looking there've been at least half a dozen decent looking 4WD's with under 100K miles for ~$10-11K (within 500 miles of LA). You just have to be ready for them cause the good deals do disappear quick.

Thanks vachss. I completely agree. I've also seen prices under 10-11k as well. That's why I wasn't sure how to feel about this deal. I feel it's a good deal, but I've also seen it much lower, especially being in the market that we're in. And your absolutely right about being ready for the deals.

Stick with your Budget.
You will find something within budget. Sure, it wont be the same exact car -- and have closer to 100K vs. 60K but thats OK.
If you are patient - you can find a nice example of a 4runner that has been taken care of within your budget.
I dont think his asking price is THAT outrageous... but when i was looking - I had a budget of under 11K.
I found some GREAT ones for 12,500-13,000. But rather than stretch my budget, I waited... and was able to pick up a great truck for $10,300. (1 owner, all records etc)
If you can afford it, and really want this one... go for it... but if the price is too high.. just keep looking!

Thanks for your input mace4runner, i plan on holding out as well. His price isn't outrageous, yet its been posted for 2 weeks now, and with all the 4runner heads out there, i believe they even realize they can get one for lower, just more milage like you said. Can i ask how many miles was on your car when you got it? I def wouldn't have a problem with a car closer to 100k as long as it was taken care of.

The one I bought had 116K on it. I would have bought one with up to 140-150K on it... with my budget.
And, lest anyone think that this was actually reasonably priced, the ad is back up again: 2004 Toyota 4Runner / 61k miles / Sport Edition
