WTK: Source for weatherstrip or solution for hard to roll up and down windows?

Greetings,

have an 1986 4runner, long time lerker and reader, and I am grateful for all the awesome how to threads and solutions to quirky stuff with our rigs

My windows on the passenger and driver side is getting hard to roll up. I replaced the window regulators with brand new ones but they are still hard to roll up and down.

The passenger side one for the weatherstrip goes down with the window when I bring it down.

Was wondering if there are alternatives to the dealer or is there a dealer to source that is inexpensive? Was thinking of trying the silicone spray trick to bring back the rubber.

Strangely this only happens in the winter time. Being this is Oregon and all.

The rubber gets stiff when it's cold. Silicone spray will reduce the resistance.

First you want to be sure the glass is actually tracking inside the weather strip and notactually pinched to the outside or inside(autoglass is my profession) thats tge most common problem(the glass slipping out of the seal normally happens below the door line. Not visible without taking the panel off.
Second, put "white grease" on the regulator teeth and the ball tack on the bottom of the glass. Bearing grease works fine too, dosent take much.
Last, the frame will tend to bend slightly in or out over time. Roll the window up untill just before it seats into the upper area. If the glass has to kick itself in or out your not aligned... Simply grab the top and pull while bracing a knee against tge door body in either direction untill the glass no longer needs to lip itself in. (Dont pull down, pull eithe tword or away from the truck body according to what you need. It wont need to move much, but use firm steady pressure)

I too have been having an issue with the windows being difficult to roll up and down on my '86 but ONLY in the winter. This winter, my drivers side regulator finally told me to go @#$% myself

I promptly ordered a new one from JCWhitney which should be arriving any day now. I was actually hoping that having a new one would actually fix the issue of it being difficult but, from what I'm reading, that's not going to be the case! I white lithium greased the joints and contact points on the old regulator while waiting for the new one for the time being and will do that same when I replace them (Im replacing both the passenger and driver side since they're paired).

I'm assuming I can use white lithium grease instead of actual silicone spray on the rubber guides, right? I dont think it would ruin it but I've not tried to use it on rubber before so I dont know if it would affect it adversely or not...

yippee I installed the ones and greased the regulator and also cleaned up the weatherstrips on the front and back. Tons of gunk came out of it.

Silicone spray and I also did the advice and bent it more inward and it up and down smooth again.

White grease is only for the regulator. Silicon spray can be used for the weather strip tho. The grease just makes a mess if it gets on the glass and will cake itself in the weather strip leaving lines of grease every time you roll the window up and down, whereas the silicone may streak a few times but can be wiped off easily. It wont streak anymore after it dries. Grease will dry out soft rubber and silicon will make the rubber pliable

Thanks for the advice on that, BurningAir. I didn't think far enough into it to realize the grease would inevitably get on the glass! I appreciate the sanity check. I'll pick up some silicon spray from Oreillys this weekend and hopefully I'll have the replacement regulators by then. Thanks again for the tips!
