X-reas - how do you know ......

This may be a stupid question since I am a new 07 Sport owner, but how do you know if it is working or what it is doing?? If it is not functional, is there a light or error code that would result??

It is a totally mechanical device, so there is no electrical communication. Check for leaks, but if the car rides fine and doesn't show any erratic shock behavior then it is more than likely functioning.

The biggest issue is when it develops a leak, and the resulting loss of fluid would eventually make itself know; same as a bad shock. Horrid shock return. The car drives crappy, etc. etc.

Definitely check the connections from the lines to the shock, so you'll see if there is any issues there. If there was an issue, as in it was losing fluids, you should be able to notice a change in the ride.

Mine went out sometime after 100,000

Indications include obvious leakage around shocks.

Bumps and cracks feel like hard knocks., you no longer have the cushion of a shock system.

I ripped mine off at 135,000 and love the new shock absorbers!

Good luck

Kevin

PS when its done, it will be obvious, you will be worried about engine mounts!

First look at your front or rear shock, if it has a hydraulic line attached about 2/3 of the way down, then you have XREAS, OR

look at your frame near the running boards, there will be a little remote reservoir looking deal.
